I got the BEST present from my parents today. I guess my Mom and Dad really worried about my recent hospitalization so they wanted to do something special for me. Well, this is the perfect gift for me. I got a Vita-Mix and I am in love.
This machine is a heavy duty blender, a food processor, ice cream/sorbet maker, and so much more! It blends food at speeds up 218 miles per hour!
The first day I had the machine I had a strawberry, banana, carrot, cabbage, and raspberry smoothie… fresh lemonade… strawberry sorbet, and hot tortilla soup. The machine actually heated up the soup and it was delicious! This machine can even be used to grind your own flour AND make bread from scratch.
It comes with two books including and amazing cookbook with hundreds of recipes for soups, salsas, ice cream, smoothies, dips, nut butters, and soooo much more. Everything can be created in minutes. And because the machine is so good at blending smoothly you can leave seeds and some rinds in tact with no need to do a bunching of peeling. In fact the lemonade I made today had quite a bit of lemon rind in it and you could not tell at all. I also added an apple to one of my smoothies and I did not core it at all.
This machine rocks! If you have any Vita-Mix recipes to share I would love to hear from you!

If one had to choose between a KitchenAid mixer and Vitamix, which is better and why?
Well, I do not have a KitchenAid mixer but from what I can tell they are not an enclosed device. I think making my smoothies in one could be potentially disastrous. So I think I would have to stick with my Vita-Mix. At this point it is all I really read…it grinds foods, I can knead dough with it, I can make soup in it, and most importantly I can make delicious smoothies. I use it 3-4 times a day and I can’t see needing anything else.
