Where do you get your unpasteurized honey from? We love using locally farmed honey because it help with allergies to pollens in the area :)

Hi Tiffany,
What a wonderful blog post on one of my favorite subjects!!

You know, I just spent a week with my family - my Mom had her 89th birthday. She is doing well, and uses the Sunrider Stevia and other Sunrider products too (and has for 12 years now). Thanks for mentioning me and my http://www.diana1.com site here, where I provide the Sunrider Stevia.

My Mom is in an Assisted Living Seniors Residence. We do the best we can to have her have a healthy diet. But on one of the days we were in the kitchen my sister and I saw the Care Aide putting Splenda into her applesauce.
I was so dismayed. Because we had told them to use the Sunrider Stevia.

Then my other sister was checking into other senior residences in the area, just to see what was available. I can't believe it --- when she was having the tour, the manager said proudly.... "We have a couple of diabetic seniors here, so we use Splenda for everyone"...

Oh, it is so sad how brainwashed everyone is! And it is so difficult to look after the health of a loved one when they are not in your own home.

Thanks for providing all the wonderful information and inspiration that you do, Tiffany.

Agave nectar is good - especially for making things like lemonade and sherbert. Rapadura/Sucanat is great for baking, I use honey in my tea and I like Maple Syrup on oatmeal :).

Yumm!!

Since January we have been refined sugar and processed sweetener free and boy do we notice a difference - no only around our waistlines but all these other natural sweeteners we use in moderation and all of us enjoy a nice tasty treat once in awhile.

Do you find Sucanat online or locally I wonder. I'll have to check it out. I've heard of it but never have used it yet. It sounds great!

Thanks for sharing,
Heidi

Another wonderful natural sweetener is agave nectar. This is even better than honey, fruit juice, and sucanat because it is lower on the glycemic index and doesn't create as much of a blood sugar spike. I highly recommend it (though stevia is still my favorite!).

Like the others said, agave syrup and stevia are two that we use a lot
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agave_syrup
Also black strap molasses, it adds iron to our foods!
As a Celiac, I can't use the barley malt syrup (use of it is what makes most corn and rice cereals off limits to myself and 3 of my children)

Merediths last blog post..Bendy Tasty Flatbread Yay!

I literally received an email today from my local garden center letting me know that they have organic stevia plants now available. This news combined with your post has me determined to kick my splenda habit and move to stevia! Thanks so much!
