A few years back I started buying wood toothbrushes with natural bristles. I like them fairly well but I didn’t feel quite right about using wood for such a disposable item. Then I happened upon Preserve Toothbrushes at Whole Foods and my whole family has been using them ever since.
The Preserve Toothbrush is made from recycled yogurt cups which is actually a BIG eco boost because most recycling centers will not recycle open mouth containers like yogurt cups…so they go in the landfill. Preserve has opted to use them to make their wonderful toothbrush and their popular razor. I was only too happy to support a company like that.
Also, when you are finished with your toothbrush..don’t throw it away. Go the Preserve web site and print a postage paid label and ship it back to them so it can be recycled again!
The BEST part of all this though is that they are affordable. You can buy them at any Target store for only $2.04. That is comparable to the mainstream and not-so eco friendly toothbrushes and better than any other price for Preserve I have yet seen. They come in lots of groovy colors and my family loves them. And if your kids NEED to have a more cutesy version they have a Preserve Jr. Toothbrush too.
Mom Central also has some printable coupons for a $1 off a purchase of two toothbrushes. Happy brushing!
Wow! These sound like a great find! Thanks for sharing. I actually have a few other things to get at Target too so I can get them all in one trip and save gas. :)
I’ve been using their toothbrushes for about five months now and am in love. It functions without a million bells and whistles, and it’s better for the environment. I just bought one for my son too. :)
Wow! Thanks! I’ll be sure to pick them up (and the razor if they have it) at Target next time we go. Awesome!
I bought these at Trader Joe’s a while back and my husband and I switched back to our crest spin brush. The handle seemed too curved and the bristles didn’t clean very well. I felt like I still had plaque on my teeth.
I love Preserve tooth brushes! I thought it was neat they were made from recycled materials when I saw them online a few years ago. I bought my first one a month or so ago when my other tooth brush was starting to go. Actually, my favorite thing about them has nothing to do with the environment. My first favorite thing is that they come in black, my second is that the packaging is also a reusable container. I travel pretty often, so that was a huge bonus for me. Plus they are recyclable and recycled…Thanks for the tip about them being sold at Target. I bought mine at Wegmans. The colors were limited and they did not have the Jr. tooth brush for my daughter.
Hate to be a party-pooper, but don´t they have those exchangeable heads? You know, the ones where you keep the handle and just exchange the really worn out part? Recycling is great, of course, but it still seems a lot of wasted engery to recycle the whole toothbrush every other month.
I love my Preserve toothbrush as well! I find it works just as well as any other toothbrush I have had. This is a little off the subject but I wanted to ask if anyone can recommend a eco friendly non slip mat for the bathtub so that my two year olds don’t fall and crack their heads on the side of the tub? Thanks!
I’ll be at Target this evening – thanks for the info!
Wow, what a great find. We’d love to participate in recycling like this!
I would love to win one of these!!!!
Thanks!
we bought the last two of these toothbrushes at trader joe’s. would love to win another for my son. btw, the website link is to his video blog!
I was just at Whole Foods… and I had this niggling feeling that I was forgetting something. That something was the preserve toothbrush and razors! Darn it all! I stared at the cutesy colored plastic ware for a good two minutes thinking… “preserve… great stuff…”. DUH.
Pick Me! It’s a 40 minute drive to WF! :)
goody! I couldn’t find them at my local Target- it’s a smaller store so it would be great to win one! thanks!
Oh! Neat. We are in the process of using more recycled/ recyclable products. This looks great. =o)
Hi! I’m trying to keep it as green as we can afford and teach my entire
family how important it is to our mother earth and future of our children.
Thanks so much. We use organic tootpaste too!
I would love one of these for one of my family members!
I am just beginning to educate myself on going Green and the benefits it will have to my family. I am excited to begin the changes in our home. I am starting with natural cleaning products and foods, and will continue to expand the change in my household until we are a true green family!
I am all about recycling these days and therefore love all the tips you give on the subject. I would love to try the toothbrushes!
