My kiddies recently got to be testers for several different kinds of Pure Fun Organic Candy. It was a hard job but I think they managed to do just fine. ;) These candies are made exclusively in Canada and the US and have built a fine reputation for what is NOT found in their candy: NO Gluten, NO GMO’S, NO FD&C Colors, NO Casein, NO Dairy, NO artificial flavors, NO dyes, NO Synthetics, NO Pesticides, NO preservatives…nothing but Pure Fun.
BUT they do have good stuff IN them to: organic cane juice, organic brown rice syrup, and natural colors derived from great stuff like red beet concentrate, alfalfa extract, red cabbage, annatto, and other yummy fruits and vegetables.
So now that we have established that they are a pretty safe option as far as candy goes they also have many different flavors and candy types….fruit rocks, pure pops, fruit pinwheels, citrus slices, chocolate meltdowns, candy canes, and root beer barrels, to name a few. Honestly I will admit I was not a huge fan of the flavor…I am not real big on candy, especially hard candies anyway but these tasted a little “off” to me. My kids, however, noticed nothing and were happy to eat them. They didn’t go nuts on them either…they just had one or two a day, so it seemed they were better able to self regulate on these.
If you are giving away candy for Halloween these would be good but a bit pricey for that. They would also be good for pulling a switcheroo on your kids Trick or Treat baskets…maybe grabbing a handful or two of snickers and peanut butter cups and throwing these in there instead.
Here is to a greener, healthier Halloween!
My neighborours already think I’m a crazy lady – we are the only lawn around here that supports a no pesticide sign – and now I have a green party sign on it – if I were to give out organic halloween candy they may never speak to me again! Not that it really matters – since my girl is almost 3 this year – i think I will have to get some candy – these look like cool options!
Good idea about non-food giveaways, but be careful buying from the dollar stores. Lots of recalls…
I like your idea of switching your kids collected candy with these. I wish there was a cheaper organic candy to hand out. Sadly I can not justify spending more money on candy I am going to be giving to kids I don’t know. Maybe I can come up with something to give out other than candy that would be cheaper. Any thoughts?
You could hand out little cloth bags (cut from clothes you don’t wear anymore, so you don’t have to buy anything or use plastic bags. tied with ribbon of or whatever is handy) filled with change, cool erasers, pencils, crayons, or other little goodies you could get at the dollar store.
I remember I used to love getting a bag of change from one of my neighbors every year for halloween.
There is another brand, Yummy Earth, which makes organic fruit based candy. They make mints, candy drops, and suckers– all of which are very very good (and this coming from someone who doesn’t like candy). My son is good about letting me trade out his halloween candy with more acceptable substitutions. Or, even better, last year we did something called “The Candy Goblin”. We tied alll his junk candy (I let him keep a few of the chocolate things) up in a tree and while he slept, the Candy Goblin came and took the candy and left a gift in it’s place. This went over VERY well and is sure to be a yearly tradition now. Try it, you’ll see!
Has anyone found stevia sweetened candy, or agave sweetened? Or even fruit sweetened? I would love to find candy that does NOT contain evaporated cane juice, but haven’t had any luck yet!
This year we bought mini playdough from Costco and some chips for the older kids – better than candy, I figure! It’s my 2.5 year old son’s first year having any interest in Halloween so I think we may just do a few houses and start that Goblin tradition. Love it!
i loved that yummy earth candy/lolllipops, but the last couple of times i visited babies r us, they didn’t have any. can you order online? i’ll have to check. :) great ideas for halloween, everyone !
Raisins, pretzels, and stickers are always options! I know, you’d be the weird person in the neighborhood. But honestly, my son was pleasantly surprised when he got those from some neighbors. It’s different :)
Oh, forgot to mention Naturepops. You can get them online or most health food stores carry them. Made by College Farm Organic. They are yummy.
We decided last year on letting the boys pick out one or two Hot Wheels vehicles (the .99 ones) in exchange for the candy….they enjoyed that and I think we will do that again this year. Hubby just takes the candy to work to share with his co-workers!!
