Thanks for sharing that video clip. I too am a fan of Dr. Oz. My hubby just meet him & got his picture with him a couple weeks ago! I haven't caught his show yet but always watched him on Oprah.

We're far from vegan (I could be more than hubby) but I love reading about your diet & how you & your hubs are dealing with it. And love the ideas. I'm slowly trying to get more of the good stuff in us & eating a little less meat. I'm trying to make a point of one or two meals/wk that are vegetarian.

I also just recently bought about 15 lbs. of beef that is from a local farm...and grass fed. I realize that meatless is probably better...this is a step in the right direction for us.

Also, Dr. Oz has an article on superfoods & Thanksgiving dinner in the Natural Health magazine. I stumbled across it at the library. Has a great looking recipe for stuffing using quinoa. I'm going to give it a try. Quinoa is fairly new to me. Hubs & I both like it. I just throw it in the rice cooker with broth, onions & sliced carrots. My hubby kept commenting how much he liked it. Good thing b/c I bought a big bag from Costco. : )

Thanks for all the info. I really enjoy reading your blog.

As a vegan of 13 years (and a B.S. in Dietetics), I say it's about time the public (and doctors) start talking about the benefits of a plant-based diet. The big meat and dairy industries fight it, but the truth has to be told so people can make their own choice with the real evedence. Drastically lower risks of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and a growing list of other diseases, is just something that shouldn't be ignored! Not to mention the benefits to the planet and, of course, the animals who are treated so cruelly and callously.

Thanks for sharing this! I try not to watch TV so I missed this.

I agree with Keith that meat can be ok, if you eat good meats. I try to limit my carnivore to chicken, fish, turkey, and extra-lean beef on rare occasions. Not that he wouldn't rather just have streak 7 nights a week. LOL

Wow, that's impressive! I eat a fair amount of meat, but it's mostly lean meat. This guy needed a drastic change. But, you know, they showed him eating a hamburger at the beginning of the show. I think his health problems stemmed from the kinds of meats he was eating more than just meat in general. That burger for instance had cheese and a white bread bun too. The meat itself was probably low quality mostly fatty stuff. So, yes, he needed that veagan diet. Most of us could benefit from a vegitarian diet for all the legitimate reasons listed. That being said though, I'm in really good health because I balance my diet. It includes meat, yes, the right kinds of meats. I'm sure a lot of people would say no meat is the right kind. That might be true, I wont dispute that opinion. But, it's not so bad if taken in moderation. Thanks for the video. I don't watch DR Oz either. For the same reason.

You know I always enjoy vegetarian meals and have never been a BIG meat eater. I physically feel better when I eat vegetarian meals. I just fall back on meat because it was how I was raised and I know how to cook a variety of meals well that contain meat. My vegetarian/vegan repertoire is woefully lacking.

Just reading your menu makes me hungry! I'll have to roam around your site to find some recipes...

Generally, I find the Dr. Oz show to be just 'meh', but that was a great clip! Rocco looked like he was going to cry in the beginning.

My husband used to work in the same department with Dr. Roizen and he's apparently amazing.
