This is funny, I was just talking to my husband about this very topic after we spent an evening watching the original "That Darn Cat". :) We are expecting our first child in June and I plan on watching plenty of the old movies with them, very much looking forward to re-watching them!

My husband, children (6yr, 6yr, 9yr) and I really enjoyed watching the old episodes of Little House on the Prairie together. The kids were amazed to see how children used to live. We picked them up from our local library.

My 5 year old loved the part of Mary Poppins where they get to jump into the picture and when they snap their fingers and their rooms get clean.

Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken is another good one. I always watched The Man From Snowy River, too.
I echo Mary Poppins and the sound of Music!!

Thanks for the list...I'll keep it on hand. Seems like for older kids? Not sure my boys (3 & 5 yrs old) would get into these for some time. Age on Old Yeller? I think mine would be pretty upset at the dog getting shot. My boys are hooked on Noggin - Dinosaur Train, Little Einsteins, & Sesame Street. Maybe too fast paced & now that's what they're used too.

Hubby & I were just talking about Mary Poppins. And I remember watching Sound of Music every year during the holidays...love it!

My kids have watched lots of old movies. Mary Poppins, Sound of Music etc. My husband lets my 9 yr old son watch Glee and all kids of bad stuff. I have no say in this. UGH> He is perfectly happy watching Jetsons and Flintstones. He will laugh his head off. Why must we expose them to so much so young?! Keep their youth. They are tainted so much in this society anyway. You can check out great old movies at the library for FREE! I just wander done the aisle and grab some every wk.

You may want to watch them by yourself first just for a refresher. I know my parents thought 'Old Yeller' was perfect too and it took me quite a while to get over them shooting the dog. I just couldn't understand it at the age I watched it.

Great movie picks! I thought I was the only one in the world who remembered Savannah Smiles! I'm also a big fan of some of the more classic films you mentioned... Thanks for the reminders on these! :)
