Science is one of those subjects I never understood in school and literally hated it but now that I am a Mom it's one of those natural exploration studies that helps you discover your world. I wish I could go back and take school all over again, with the knowledge I have now. I would view things so differently. I was so tickled when my daughter's 2nd grade class introduced science this year. I always encourage my girls to explore new things and discover new bugs. We always research new bugs and critters whenever we find a new one. My oldest daughter loves rocks, fossils and shells and she has a growing collection in her room that she keeps in a special box. She was tickled the other day when she found a shiny glass looking rock in a decorative jar that I had brought out for decoration, she reached inside and pulled the rock out and said, what a cool rock Mom! I said, you gave me that rock years ago and I kept it. She smiled from ear to ear and skipped off to her room to add it to her collection. It's those little things that kids discover and share with you that mean so much more than a box full of toys. Those days you spend at the park or taking a nature hike are much more beneficial to kids developing minds because they are so much more in tune with themselves and the world around them. I'm all for embracing science now that I understand it. I just didn't realize it when I was a youngster, but that was really one of my favorite areas and I didn't even know it. Take a moment or two to discover what your kids really enjoy, you might be surprised! :)
