A More Mindful Baby Registry

Are you going to be welcoming a new baby soon? Congrats! No doubt once you begin to share your news with friends and family you start to be inundated with questions. What do you need? Can we help with a shower? Are you registered for gifts? Getting gifts for the baby and/or having a baby shower is one of the most fun things about being pregnant, at least it was for me. I generally didn’t enjoy being pregnant but I certainly loved the anticipation and getting to share my excitement with those closest to me. Baby showers are just a wee bit magical don’t you think?

But what if this is not your first rodeo and you don’t need very much. You may still want a shower and a registry because every baby deserves a party. Maybe you are a green mom or a minimalist mom. You happen to be pretty picky about what you want and like so that makes having a registry even more important.

Let’s imagine that you plan to open a registry at Target. That seems to be one of the most popular places. Heck that is where I registered for everything, including my wedding and that was almost 20 years ago. The baby options are a million times more vast and planet friendly too. If I was doing it all over again today…this baby thing…this natural mom insider would register for some of these key items:

Cloth Diapers – Amazing! The only cloth diapers you could find when my babes were wee was the cloth prefolds and plastic pants. You can still get those of course but now they have Bumkins, Bum Genius, and Thirsties. I love that moms can more easily choose cloth now.

Organic Baby Items – Target actually has a lot of organics for baby…clothing, blankets, crib sheets, mattresses, and more. Choosing organic baby items is important to protect your baby from irritation. There are products that are baby-friendly like how babysoy choose azlon from soy fiber for their baby clothes. Azlon from soy fiber in baby clothes has some amazing benefits such as smooth texture that can be compared to silk fibers, it also has warmth retention to keep your baby warm and dry and its UV protection is 3-4 times better than cotton or bamboo fiber.

Nursing Accoutrements – I would definitely register for a nursing pillow such a Boppy and extra covers, some washable nursing pads, and some nipple cream/butter. You may also want a nursing cover.

Glass Baby Bottles – If you plan to do some pumping and bottle feeding then glass baby bottles are are the best to prevent exposure to plastic toxins.

Food Prep Items – If you don’t already have a food processor you may want to register for a Cuisinart Baby Food Maker to help you easily prepare healthy table foods when it comes time to start solids.

Teething Aids – Register for a non toxic teether such as Sophie the Giraffe or the Itzy Ritzy silicone teething jewelry.

A Baby Sling or Wrap – Wearing your baby is good for both mom and baby so put one, or two, or three good carriers on your registry.
