Fall Reading List – Hygge, Danish Living, and Inspired Action

fall reading hyggeHere is a run down of what this book lover has been reading…

I recently finished five new audio books and two regular books…

The Year of Living Danishly – This audiobook has been languishing in my audible collection for many, many months. I bought it as a daily deal for only a couple bucks and then never listened to it. Last week though I decided to give it a try and was completely enchanted. Not only did I adore the book, people at work kept asking why I was smiling. It was funny and entertaining while giving us a look into the author’s experience living in Denmark for a year with her husband. As a writer she decided to use the time to try and figure out why the Danish are statistically the happiest people in the world.

This book also went into depth about the term Hygge which is something of a trend the past the year. This lead me to read Hygge – The Danish Art of Happiness. It is full of beautiful photographs and simple, practical steps and ideas to make your home and life both comfortable and cheering all year round, this book is the easy way to introduce hygge into your life.

Also because of that initial book I picked up a couple dozen Scandinavian cookbooks including Scandinavian Comfort Foods and Copenhagen Food: Stories, Tradition and Recipes. I have a bunch of recipes picked out to try including some with pickled herring which I tried recently for the first time, and LOVED.

Re-listened to a book for the third time called The Map: To Our Responsive Universe, Where Dreams Really Do Come True. It is in part storytelling about the author’s journey through life from divorced and nearly homeless to a happily remarried business owner who travels on a private jet between her two homes in Boulder, Colorado and the Bahamas. Wow! It is also in great part a map she created with specifics in how she created or manifested all of it. The first time I read it I thought it was a bit woo-woo but after trying some of her techniques I cannot argue with the results and have come back for a second and third listen. I also recently went through my Stitcher app and listened to every interview she gave and discovered I am late to the party. She has already released three other books since that one!!! I just ordered The Map to Abundance: The No Exceptions Guide to Money, Success, and Bliss and Messages From Your Unseen Friends: Volume I. Now admittedly I already a BIG believer in the law of attraction but she puts a very fresh spin on it. Can’t wait to read her other books!

Mostly I read the next book because of the HUGE buzz about it right now. The book is Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be. It ended up being funny, interesting, and very motivating. It also really makes you the love the author and want to follow her on all her social media channels. She is basically the mom version of Tony Robbins.

Radical Metabolism was the next read because I do love health books. This one was particularly good and I have listened twice already because it has so much info. I particularly love the advice on gallbladder health and support since removal is a big thing nowadays. I had mine removed for exactly the reasons the described and it all stems from not eating healthy fats and now that it is gone I cannot digest healthy fats properly even though I know their value!! It also talks about the connection between the gallbladder and hypothyroidism which I was diagnosed with after my removal. I never knew the connection! This book is a real and true godsend. READ IT NOW!

My only fiction read was The Hunt for Red October. I have been on a John Ryan kick since they released the amazing TV series on Amazon Prime. The book was good but I think I prefer the TV show and movies. The books are a little slow for me.

What are you reading right now?
