A new ad video from Clorox Green Works (see it below) sparked some great conversations on Facebook recently. Some green moms are feeling attacked by the video because they feel it makes our concern for environmental issues seem more than a little nutty. Greener Cleaners Roundup
One of the first steps in moving towards any greener, more sustainable lifestyle has to be the step where you ditch chemical cleaners and start using cleaner, greener options. It is my number #1 recommended step in fact because everyone has to clean house and by using green cleaners we make our homes and our planet safer. Its not always an easy switch though. Drop That Bleach!
No surprise here but bleach is not very good for the environement. Adding chlorine (in conventional bleach) to an organic-rich waste stream (like rinse water) leads to the formation of environmentally hazardous byproducts, such as dioxins. Dioxins are carcinogenic. But if chlorine is bad then how do you get your laundry looking bright and white?
