Feeding Rabbits on the Homestead

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

Like all pets, rabbits need a balanced diet in order to thrive. Because 20% of a rabbit’s entire body weight is occupied by its digestive system, diet is especially important to a bunny's health. Many of the pellet foods that are provided in the US market contain everything that your rabbit will need nutrition-wise. They are also the simplest option – even though some of them are high in calories compared to what a rabbit would eat out in the wild. They can be kind of pricey though. If you are … [Read more...]

Small Scale Aquaponics – Growing Greens With a Fish Tank

By Tiffany 11 Comments

One of the biggest hopes you can have as a mom and an environmentalist is that your kids will want to take up your causes as they grow and mature. I could not be prouder of my oldest child (nearly 14) as he grows into a stellar young man. He is kind, empathetic, smart, a great cook and fisherman, and very much interested in sustainability and homesteading practices. He helps me in the garden and listens relentlessly to my babbling about political issues, food integrity, and saving the … [Read more...]

Shopping Cart Baskets

Loving my shopping cart baskets from Reuseit. Relying on reusable bags can be hit or miss because you may not remember to take them. If you keep them in your car that can be messy if you need a lot (like we do). These baskets, however, are easy to use at the store and don't take up much room in the car. We just fit them inside the shopping cart and fill the cart up as we usually would. Then you, or the person bagging the groceries, just skips the whole bagging part and puts them back in the … [Read more...]

Eco Wrap – My Family, Gardening, and Earthopoly

By Tiffany 7 Comments

TGIF! Have an awesome weekend everyone! I had a wonderful vacation in Florida recently. My family stayed at a resort right next to The Magic Kingdom. Of course we had fun at the Disney parks but I think the kids enjoyed Sea World and the just hanging out at the pool the most. I was really excited to get home though...Florida was HOT and dry. It really made me appreciate Ohio more. I was downright giddy when we pulled up to our house and it was cool and rainy. I have been slow to blog … [Read more...]

Arizona Resort Goes All Organic

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

I was elated to read this morning that a resort just a few miles from my house (and a place I LOVE to stay at) is going to be a pioneeer for the organic movement by going all organic. The resort is called The Boulders. An establishment right next to the resort called El Pedegral, is actually a Farmer's Market and festival that offers organic produce. Here I have lived next to this marketplace for years (when I am not in Ohio) and I never even knew what it was. Coming in October is an organic … [Read more...]
