Zulily Deals this Week

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

Some great deals are happening on Zulily right now for greener gear and toys. First up is CitiBlocs. My kids have had these for years. I love that they are reminiscent of the plain wood blocks I had as a child. My brother and I had so many hours of opened ended play with blocks. Good times! I also love the colors...   Melissa and Doug Toys with lots of pretend/play food options made of wood. Goodbyn Lunchboxes - I reviewed them here and I have one child that LOVES this … [Read more...]

Green Tips for Safer Christmas Toys

By Tiffany 3 Comments

Above: My daughter is playing with her Spellmaster by Tag Toys Is Christmas on the brain yet? Every year parents hear about toy recalls and the latest toys to have failed safety inspections and expectations. Tighter regulations passed but that ultimately ended up meaning we had fewer options and the huge corporations making the toys typically recalled got free passes to go about business as usual. Cause you know... safety legislation is too tedious for mega corporations to deal with. From lead … [Read more...]

Vaccines, Toys, and Homeschool Stuff

TGIF! Have an awesome weekend everyone! I am hoping for a laaaazy weekend with my hubby and kids. I really hope hubby won't try and talk me into going to Zoombezi Bay but I think I will be outnumbered if he does. I went garage sale hopping this morning but there weren't that many unfortunately and the lack of available sales made for traffic jams and buying frenzy at the few there were. I think the economy is getting to people. I bought one book today...one of those Little Golden books that I … [Read more...]

Painting Piggy Banks- An Unplugged Project

By Tiffany 3 Comments

My oldest was on Spring break this last week and we did a variety of "crafty" projects. One of my favorites was our painting piggy banks project. We ended up buying two ceramic piggy banks at Kroger. My kids wanted some sort of "treat" which is code for toy. I told them my stipulation was that they pick something that will last, that isn't plastic, and that does not have excessive packaging. Mommy is MEAN huh? They picked out two ceramic piggy banks (unpainted) much to my delight and when we … [Read more...]

Lead Free Toy Guide

By Tiffany 22 Comments

There are many occasions for which we might seek to buy toys...holidays, birthdays, graduations, and other special events. These days though, walking into a big box store or shopping on Amazon to buy toys can be a dangerous thing. Foreign made toys can be downright unsafe if you don't know the company or what they stand for and you might end up buying toys with toxic chemicals or lead paint. I am pretty sure that poisoning the children in our lives is NOT what we had in mind, so I have started … [Read more...]
