Gearing Up for Hiking Season

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

These days I am pretty much all about CrossFit but I have not forgotten my other "love". Hiking. I got an email reminder over the weekend that my city's annual Fall hiking series kicks off in late August and I am psyched. You basically take a guided or unguided hike through 10 of our 16 Metro parks. It is a great way to spend every Saturday for ten weeks...with your community, enjoying the changing of the leaves. I look forward to it each year. You get free refreshments after each hike and if … [Read more...]

Do You Play With Your Kids?

By Tiffany 4 Comments

This is week two of the attachment parenting discussion between Green Moms Weekly... all in honor of Attachment Parenting month. The question this week is: What are some fun, simple, activities that you engage your children with? I have to admit that I am not terribly great at "play". I do lots of stuff with my kids and I am a very attentive and involved parents but actually playing with my kids has always been a struggle for me. Sure we play around often with tickling or thumb wars, little … [Read more...]

52 Nature Adventures for City Kids

By Tiffany 1 Comment

The kind folks at Shambhala Publications sent me a book recently that they knew would be right up my alley. Despite the fact that I blog about a more natural family life, getting out in nature, homesteading, etc I do it from the viewpoint of someone who lives in the city. I can see the Columbus city skyline from the top floor of my house. I actually love city living but I I feel it is important to bring in those parts of rural life where we can. This is why we garden, make our own yogurt and … [Read more...]

Raising Minimalist Children in a Society of Excess

By Tiffany 55 Comments

There is a growing trend toward minimalism and voluntary simplicity. I have written about it many times here. We made a huge leap towards minimalism and a more simple life last year. We moved from a large house in the suburbs to a small 1000 square foot house in the city. We downgraded to one car and we got rid of 50% of our belongings. You kind of have to when you move into a smaller place. It was a wonderful experience and has helped us see more clearly what kind of life we want to shape. We … [Read more...]

10 Resolutions for 2010

By Tiffany 7 Comments

  1. Up our winter activities with winter hikes, sledding, ice skating, snow tubing, and evening walks.  2. Get more involved with our metro parks and our city parks and recreation offerings… nature hikes, educational classes, etc. 3. Plan a garden for the new house, utilizing the yard and patio. 4. Join some local photography classes and photo walks. Take more pictures, hone my craft. 5. Save for and buy an older RV or pop up tent trailer for camping and fix it up. Do any … [Read more...]
