Facial Tissues With a Conscious

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

I am not a facial tissue consumer. We almost never, ever buy them. At home we opt for reusable cloth hankerchiefs. They are soft, easy to clean, and easy to always keep on hand when we need them. This is a practice I learned from my dad. He wore suits nearly every day and you would not find wadded up pieces of paper tissue in his pockets. He carried around a nice "hankie" at all times. Of course I did say we almost never buy facial tissues. There is one time each year when we do buy … [Read more...]

Green Your First Day of School

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

Last week I completed the Recyclebank challenge to green my school supplies shopping and prep. This week Recyclebank is challenging us to green the first day of school. Luckily we did not have to get up at 6:00 a.m. like the mom in the challenge. Yikes! Our day started at 7:00 a.m. I got up and showered about a few minutes before that and then woke my daughter so she could shower next. She has to have time for her waist length hair to dry. ;) My oldest boy was already up and ready by this time, … [Read more...]

Green Your School Year with Recyclebank

By Tiffany 1 Comment

It is that time of year so I  have been posting regularly about greening the upcoming school year. I have been doing this for a couple years so it is habit now but yet even I need reminders and motivation sometimes. Going to Walmart and tossing the cheapest stuff in the cart as fast as you possibly can is certainly tempting when your to-do and  your to-buy list is super long. If it were easy all the time then it wouldn't be called "making an impact" would it? Even green parents can start to run … [Read more...]

Green Back to School Ideas

By Tiffany 9 Comments

Getting ready to go back to school can bring a lot of mixed emotions; grief over the loss of summer, relief for the parents, dread for the kids, and it can have some green-minded parents shaking their head over the sheer amount of items (clothes, shoes, school supplies) that their kids seem to need to buy – and re-buy, each and every year.  Even when you homeschool you typically still buy some new stuff around this time because this is when it is readily available and on sale. Is there a way to … [Read more...]

Back to School on a Budget

By Tiffany 16 Comments

July/August is when we start to see back to school sales and we typically start to make our supply lists if we have kids attending school outside the home. Even if you homeschool you will still likely take advantage of this time of year to get good deals on supplies. How much do you typically spend for back to school supplies? Well, according to the National Retail Foundation, the average family with students in grades Kindergarten through 12 is expected to spend $548.72 on school … [Read more...]
