Gardening in June: Blackberries, Jalapenos, and Bell Peppers

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

June has been an exciting gardening month for me. It is a daily joy to go outside and see how things are growing and changing. Unless of course I go outside and see that squirrels have been eating my bell pepper plants, then I just want to go outside with a .22 and maybe have some squirrel stew for dinner. In lieu of that I have been making sure to spray them with an oil/cayenne pepper mixture and so far that seems to be working. I have already lost 4 of my 6 original bell pepper plants though. … [Read more...]

10 Ways to Reuse Tea Bags

By Tiffany 5 Comments

If you’re a tea drinker, you may be wondering what to do with all those leftover tea bags. This has only recently become a concern in our house. My 12 year old would also make iced tea here and there. We just composted our tea bags. As the quantity grew though I decided we might find some other uses for them. Here are a few things you can … [Read more...]

Homemade Fruit Fly Trap

By Tiffany 4 Comments

When you eat a lot of fresh fruit and produce you tend to see lots of fruit flies hanging around your house. My husband insists that there have to be eggs on the fruit and that is how they get into the house. I prefer to believe that the little guys can smell the ripe fruit from miles away and sneak inside the house to feast. Who wants to imagine they are buying fruit with egg sacs all over it??? Yuck! Either way it is gross to walk by your bowl of apples or bananas (or whatever fruit you like … [Read more...]

Smart, Green, and Frugal Products To Buy With Your Tax Refund

By Tiffany 5 Comments

Okay, it is that time of year. You may be thinking (or agonizing) about how you have to file taxes online or maybe you already have them done. Either way if you are expecting a refund from Uncle Sam than you have already started dreaming about what you will do with it. Same here. Though some will certainly say it is silly to loan the government money, my family usually overpays our taxes during the year and thus we get a refund. We don't do it as some sort of savings plan, we do it to cover our … [Read more...]
