How to Make Home Brewed Kombucha

By Tiffany 8 Comments

Kombucha is pretty expensive to buy and yet it is so delicious, healthy, and great as an alternative for those of us who are tempted by soda that it becomes an easily justified expense. Well until you realize just how easy it is to make yourself that is. We have now established a pretty efficient brewing method in our home and we have gone from spending $4-5 dollars per bottle at the store to home brewed Kombucha for about .17 cents a bottle. Plus we are reusing all the Kombucha bottles we … [Read more...]

Organic Lip Balms for Dry Winter Lips

By Tiffany 22 Comments

I am sure that you are very familiar with the loads of lip balms and chapsticks that frequently appear near grocery check out lines. There are lots of choices in theory but none that are all that healthy for us unless you are at a health food store. The leading brand is full of parabans, petroleum, and chemical dyes and fragrance. Not something we should be rubbing on our lips. Sadly this is the case for most lip balms found in conventional stores. There is also a market for these products year … [Read more...]

The Healing Benefits of Mint

By Tiffany 15 Comments

Mint is often associated with freshness and vitality and is probably one of the most recognized and popular flavors in the world. You have the "sweet" mint found in candies, cocktails, iced tea and soft drinks, and ice cream (Peppermint) and you have the "savory" mint found commonly in spicy dishes (Spearmint). Sweet or savory, mint has healing properties and health benefits. Some you may be aware of and some may surprise you. Digestive Health Peppermint is commonly used to help with IBS or … [Read more...]

Kit’s Organic Versus LaraBar

By Tiffany 9 Comments

Kit's Organic fruit and nut bars appear to be CLIFs version of the all popular LaraBar. Up until these, CLIF was mostly offering grain based protein bars for active folks and a specialty brand of the same for women. I am not a fan because they have grains and they have soy. It was one these brands actually that I started consuming shorty before my thyroid disaster. When CLIF contacted me about trying these bars I was a nano second away from hitting delete when I saw that these were fruit and nut … [Read more...]

Frozen Kefir and Blackberry Compote

By Tiffany 12 Comments

We aren't all that big on desserts around here. I think that may be because we live within 15 minutes of what has been called America's best ice cream... the local artisan creations from Jeni's. I have no problem loading the family into the car and making a trip there once or twice a week but recently we decided that needed to change some. We aren't worried about our health or the size of our jeans. Rather we are trying to reduce the "dining out" portion of our monthly budget. Dagnabit! Since we … [Read more...]
