These days I am pretty much all about CrossFit but I have not forgotten my other "love". Hiking. I got an email reminder over the weekend that my city's annual Fall hiking series kicks off in late August and I am psyched. You basically take a guided or unguided hike through 10 of our 16 Metro parks. It is a great way to spend every Saturday for ten weeks...with your community, enjoying the changing of the leaves. The kind folks at Shambhala Publications sent me a book recently that they knew would be right up my alley. Despite the fact that I blog about a more natural family life, getting out in nature, homesteading, etc I do it from the viewpoint of someone who lives in the city. Raising Minimalist Children in a Society of Excess
There is a growing trend toward minimalism and voluntary simplicity. I have written about it many times here. We made a huge leap towards minimalism and a more simple life last year. We moved from a large house in the suburbs to a small 1000 square foot house in the city. We downgraded to one car and we got rid of 50% of our belongings. 10 Resolutions for 2010
1. Up our winter activities with winter hikes, sledding, ice skating, snow tubing, and evening walks. 2. Get more involved with our metro parks and our city parks and recreation offerings… nature hikes, educational classes, etc. 3. Plan a garden for the new house, utilizing the yard and patio. 4.
