Raw, Veggie, and Gluten Free Cookbooks

By Tiffany 2 Comments

A couple months ago I accepted some cookbooks to review. At the time they either perfectly complimented my diet or I was just curious to take a look. Now the ones that were perfect are less so, as I start my journey with paleo, and the one that I was simply curious about is not as much help as I would have hoped. The world is full of surprises I guess. I never imagined I would do a 180 on my diet but when you feel the urge to make the change you just have to trust that you have done your … [Read more...]

A Diet for the New Year – Or Why I am Going Primal

By Tiffany 17 Comments

When I posted about going grain free this week and also eschewing some other foods, I got many comments and emails asking what in the Sam Hill I WOULD be eating. I understand the confusion. As a nourished vegetarian most of my protein came from eggs, dairy, grains, legumes, beans, lentils, nuts and nut butters, greens, and protein supplements. This year I have decided to go grain free and pseudo grain free. This means everything from whole wheat and oats, to rice and Quinoa, is on the chopping … [Read more...]

Does Food Really Matter?

By Tiffany 20 Comments

This morning I watched an incredible documentary called Food Matters. I was enthralled from the first few opening seconds and hooked until the credits. I even watched the credits because they had some background music lyrics that were interesting too. This film is all about the “you are what you eat” concept. Doctors today don’t receive very much training in nutrition and most patients believe there is a pill that cures everything. IMO and the opinion of the makers of this film…that is … [Read more...]

How to Make Homemade Almond Milk

By Tiffany 31 Comments

This morning I made some raw almond milk. It is still a living food, it's vegan, and is very good for you. My two boys love to drink it straight up...my daughter would rather have raw cows milk I think. But none of them mind when I use it in cereals or in homemade raw ice cream. We also use it to make chocolate milk and banana milk which they all love. It is great as a base for milky matcha tea drink too. Yum! It is super easy to make. Other than the 8-12 hours I soak the almonds first it only … [Read more...]

Raw Food for Kids

By Tiffany 2 Comments

Just in case you missed it, I posted about kids and raw food over at my other blog. It is challenging IMO to commit to a raw foods diet because it is so different than what we all grew up and with. It also contrasts with what is considered the "norm" nowadays. Kids in particular can be hard to transition away from processed, chemical laden, nutritionally deficient cooked foods. You have to get more creative than trail mix and salad to get the kids on board. With that in mind I have just … [Read more...]
