Making Yogurt at Home

By Tiffany 7 Comments

There are so many reasons to try making your own yogurt at home. For one we get to eliminate yet another source of plastic in our lives because very few yogurt companies offer their product in glass containers. Yogurt cups are notoriously hard to recycle and are not accepted by many recycling plants. Another reason to make homemade is too have more control over what we are eating. You don't have to worry about the laundry list of preservatives and additives.. you know exactly what is in your … [Read more...]

Devil in the Milk

By Tiffany 20 Comments

Ever heard of the raging debate about A1 and A2 milk? No? I hadn't either. But I am generally not a fan of milk so I thought perhaps I just wasn't being observant. Raw milk is about the only milk I will drink and I haven't even had that in a quite a while. A new book I read this weekend has me wondering if that shouldn't be a permanent thing. As it is now, we have reverted back to using some milk products... like cheese. I picked up a book called Devil in the Milk and the introduction talked … [Read more...]

When Your Parenting Style Goes Against the Grain

By Tiffany 59 Comments

I recently read an excellent article in a parenting magazine. I related deeply to an article on "Being a Parenting Original". I have often times been made to feel that I my methods of parenting are kind of kooky and bizarre. I have been relegated to that alternative group often referred to as hippie, crunchy, granola, or in some cases just plain weird. I am a true parenting original and yes in the beginning it was hard to feel different but now my confidence in my choices is solid and strong and … [Read more...]

Green Food Storage – Reader Questions

By Tiffany 5 Comments

I am getting lots of great questions lately submitted via email. I usually just hit the reply button and give a quickie response but I will try harder to address questions on the blog just in case other people are wondering. Janelle, who asked about what I use to store food in besides plastic last week, emailed again to know what I use in my freezer instead of plastic containers or plastic baggies. She was primarily concerned about storing leftovers in the freezer. That is a great question … [Read more...]

Illegal Part Two – Book Discussion

By Tiffany 7 Comments

This is part two of my discussion about Joel Salatin's new book, Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal. Read part one here. Chapter one addresses the assault on raw milk and how legislation in regards to milk was a dream killer for him. Ironically milk became unsafe as it became an industrialized product. Now the very same process that made it unsafe in the first place is the requirement. Never mind the fact that people drank milk straight from the cow safely for centuries before the industrial … [Read more...]
