Healthy Snacks and Lunches for Kids at Home

I recently had a reader ask about healthy snack and lunch ideas for kids not attending school yet. So this seemed like a good time to link to an article I wrote about Healthy Snack Ideas.

Here are a couple of the ideas:

* Ants on a log (celery with peanut butter and raisins)

* Carrots, celery, and pita triangles with Hummus dipping sauce

* Banana Pops (dip in yogurt, roll in crushed grains, and freeze)

* Frozen grapes

Also, you might try a really fun pita sandwich that is a hit in our house…The Rainbow PB&J. This is fun and easy to make. Just put your PB& J in a whole wheat pita pocket, spread some peanut butter on the top and then layer some colorful fruit.

    Hey Tiffany, thanks for the nice blogger award! Cool beans!

    I put up a bento post about a week ago with an ants-on-a-log snack bento that I thought your readers might want to have a gander at — http://www.bentoyum.com/?p=169. My mom used to make those for us all the time when my sister and I were young and they are so yummy!

    That is an amazing lunch. And I think all the colors and textures makes it all the more inviting and satisfying. In a way junk food can never be. I’m impressed.

    Cheers!

  4. I checked out your new Bento blog and it’s great! Thanks for all the great ideas. I purchased a laptop lunchbox after reading about it on your blog and now I’m happy to see ideas about what to put in it.

  5. I have the perfect product for time-crunched moms! GoPicnic just came out with MightyMunch meals for kids. These meals are what my kids eat for lunch everyday at school and then I don’t have to prepare them! The meals focus on natural ingredients and clean labels and are completely free of trans fats, high fructose corn syrup, MSG, artificial colors, artificial flavors, and peanuts & tree nuts, the most common allergens. PLUS- all of the MightyMunch meals are balanced to 35-10-35 nutrition standards that limit the amount of fat, saturated fat, and sugar in each meal, recommended by many school districts and advocacy groups for kids’ healthy eating. I order them online at http://www.gopicnic.com. Enjoy!
