Plastics Are Good For You?

Yikes. Sad, but true.

I’d laugh if it weren’t so true.

This is sad and it made me think of the recent ad they have out about high fructose corn syrup. Check this out

I just today was quizzing my dentist about composite fillings that my hubby and I are both getting to replace old sealants. We had read that they were made with BPA, so both of us were concerned. My dentist’s exact words: “Everything in them is approved by the FDA, so there can’t be anything dangerous.” AGH! So frustrating. So we can either choose composite fillings laced with BPA (confirmed by the hygienist), or amalgam fillings still containing mercury. What a choice! Or gold, but a) we can’t afford it and b) in order to use gold you need bigger areas to be filled, which doesn’t apply to our situation.
Any insight?

Too true! The FDA is all too good at picking and choosing which studies to believe, and have this crazy notion that industry studies are going to be more honest than government or university studies.

I thought the chemicals could only leak out if what was being put in them was hot or the plastic was heated, is that true?

I’m scared to think about all the poison I may have unknowingly exposed my teens to when they were babes. I nursed both and used glass bottles because but once they were toddlers it was plastic all the way. Sigh…

TERRIFYING!

This is one of those grown-up cartoons, like those gothic picture books about wolves in the walls or selling daddy for baseball cards. Thank God my kids’ milk was heated in the safety of my boob!

The clear answer is NO – plastics are NOT good for you.

But, purism aside – what are we to do with all the existing plastic.

Also, since plastic is a petroleum (crude oil) based product – and since petroleum is subsidized (corporate welfare) by taxpayers – as soon as we remove the subsidies the price of plastic will rise prohibitively.

So lets work to end the oil subsidies to eleminate plastics from the production line.

But that leads us to another question – what in gods name do we replace it with?

We don’t get rid of all of it. Plastic does have a place IMO. I would prefer not to eat out of it or store food in it but plastic in hospitals and such are needed for instance. We could greatly reduce plastic consumption though.

As much as this sounds like a sales pitch… “mabe it is alittle” We realy want people to stop the plastic polution of water bottles and make a difference in what goes to landfill every day, as well as poluting their children’s bodies unknowingly.
