I just ran across this yesterday and I want one! You plug it into an outlet and then plug an appliance or some other electric device into it and it then tells you how much energy is used to run that device. Not only does it tell you how much energy is used but it also allows you to input your price per Kilowatt-hour (as charged by your utility company) and it will then tell you how much it costs to run that device per day, week, month, and year. By using the Kill A Watt EZ you can measure energy draw when devices are in use or when they are not being used but are still plugged in. This might give you incentive to go to the trouble of turning off that power bar to your entertainment center or computer but perhaps not unplug your alarm clock every day if it only costs 11 cents a month to keep plugged in 24/7. It might also be a boon in a home with older kids and teens who think they need their own computer and TVs… the real cost of running these things would be helpful to know.
I only wish it was compatible with 220V plugs because I would love to test my dryer and hot water heater.
My library has about 40 of these to check out. You should check yours. Ours were donated by our utility company, which you should also check because I know some have them.
Very cool!
Thanks for the tip!
I have one of these, and it is well worth the money! We have been able to figure out some money wasters in our home with it, and we now know we need to replace our deep freeze soon, as it would pay for itself within a year with the power savings.
If you want to know the cost of running your dryer or other large appliances, this website has a great and simple way to figure it out:

And here is another informative website on saving electrical costs:

Awesome! My husband, while for saving the planet is not exactly proactive about it. He is however proactive about saving money. Proof that it’s worth while to unplug the appliances when not in use! PERFECT!
Very nice, thanks for the tip!
Neat gadget! Monitoring our energy consumption really is a must and this product makes it very easy to do that! Can’t wait to tell my friends about this — they’d be happy to save energy and save money on bills too!
Green product….and killing !!!! impossible….
Thanks for the post….
This is great! I have never heard of this before but think it is fantastic. We unplug most everything in our house but I think for people who don’t this is a great way to begin understanding what your electronics are costing you and the planet.
I love ours! Really worth it. When the in-laws thought we were crazy for having surge protectors and unplugging stuff- this proved them wrong.
I checked one of these out of our local library once but had a hard time using it because I couldn’t figure out the real cost of our electricity. Our bill lists a whole bunch of costs and rates, it was confusing. Next time I’ll call the electric company first then check out the gadget.
I have a friend I am always arguing with about unplugging things. He says that it doesn’t make a difference and I say it does! He asked me to show him some proof, so I will just send him to this page and see what he has to say now lol.
