Adopt an Olive Tree

I have always dreamed of packing up my family and moving to Italy. I don’t know what it is about Italy, the country, the food, the people…it is all so intoxicating and I have dreamed of living there since I was a teenager. I was reminded of those feelings today when I ran across a link to an organic olive grove in Italy (Nudo) that is offering to let you adopt of their 881 olive trees for a year. Imagine dunking your bread in your own oil from your own tree thousands of miles away on a hillside in Italy.

As part of this deal you receive three packages during the year from Nudo. The first will contain a certificate and an information booklet about your tree, the second (in spring) will have 1-3 liters of pressed extra virgin olive oil and the third (in fall) will contain lemon-flavored olive oil and three types of olive oil soaps. Unfortunately, they don’t ship outside of Europe or I be adopting one of these trees. Sigh…maybe soon they will allow adoptees from the US.

Ciao!

    Hi Tiffiany,
I looked at the site. What a fun idea. I wish I could adopt a tree too. Maybe there is someone in the US that will figure this out and do something similar :)

    Thanks for sharing this.

    Regards,
    Erin

Hey, gave a thought that this just may be a money gimpit in the long run? You can actually grow your own olive tree even in a bucket if you don’t have a yard, plus at most of the nurseries they are affordable. Bonus is they don’t really take a lot of care.

  3. I am sure that they started this program for monetary reasons but I would still support their efforts. Small farms have a tough time competing with the the big guys and often times they form co-op type programs to help offset the costs so they can stay in business. They are helping to provide local food for their communities so I think it is the communities responsibilty to help them succeed. This particular place just got creative and sought support from others beyond their own commnuity.
