7 Simple Tips for Healthy Eating at Home

By Tiffany 27 Comments

Yesterday I read an article that really raised my eyebrows recently. The article claimed that 40% of American meals are now purchased and consumed outside the home. This is very scary for the future health and wellness of this country and for generations of children. I myself used to be a big fast food eater so I totally get why it has become so addicting. My first child used to have McDonald's 5 days a week while I was working. Then I got cancer and had a big revelation about my health and my … [Read more...]

A Diet for the New Year – Or Why I am Going Primal

By Tiffany 17 Comments

When I posted about going grain free this week and also eschewing some other foods, I got many comments and emails asking what in the Sam Hill I WOULD be eating. I understand the confusion. As a nourished vegetarian most of my protein came from eggs, dairy, grains, legumes, beans, lentils, nuts and nut butters, greens, and protein supplements. This year I have decided to go grain free and pseudo grain free. This means everything from whole wheat and oats, to rice and Quinoa, is on the chopping … [Read more...]

What is The Paleo Diet?

By Tiffany 8 Comments

More and more health food blogs are popping up that tout the benefits of a primal or Paleo diet. What exactly is a Paleo Diet? Well, the easiest way to decipher what it is is to call it the caveman diet. Some of them even appear to want to club their veggie eating neighbors over the heads with a drumstick. The basic idea is that we need to eat what cavemen ate before modern inventions like farming and food processing. So they eat fish, lean meats, eggs, nuts, fruit, greens, and seeds. They do … [Read more...]

Raw Food for Kids

By Tiffany 2 Comments

Just in case you missed it, I posted about kids and raw food over at my other blog. It is challenging IMO to commit to a raw foods diet because it is so different than what we all grew up and with. It also contrasts with what is considered the "norm" nowadays. Kids in particular can be hard to transition away from processed, chemical laden, nutritionally deficient cooked foods. You have to get more creative than trail mix and salad to get the kids on board. With that in mind I have just … [Read more...]

A Rawesome Update

By Tiffany 16 Comments

Just an update on my rawesome journey with raw foods. I am really thinking of staring a separate blog to discuss all this on a naturemoms subdomain but for now here is my progress. I am feeling AMAZING! The other morning my family was eating breakfast with my parents and this is how the conversation went with my Dad: Dad: You look really great. Is it that raw foods thing? Me: Yes, I feel really good....lots of energy. Dad: You look it...you seem really alert and your skin looks really … [Read more...]
