Making Herbal Infusions and Decoctions

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

There are a variety of ways that we can tap into the ancient practices of using natural remedies to heal and stay healthy. Some of the techniques involved in leveraging herbal remedies include compresses, decoction, ointments, infusions, poultices, syrups, tinctures, and tonics. This article will discuss two in particular and perhaps the easiest ways to use herbal remedies...infusions and decoctions. Quite simply and infusion is a hot or cold drink made from the leaves and flowers of herbs. A … [Read more...]

Preparing Your Home For Cold Weather

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

When cold weather shows up and decides to stay that is when my cold weather to-do list starts being made. I have quite a bit I need to get done each year and making sure it all gets done is extremely important for a variety of reasons. Everything on my cold weather home preparation list ensures that our home is a safe, warm, affordable, reliable, energy efficient, and healthy place to be for the winter months. Some of it is just checking for problems before they happen. Other aspects mean doing … [Read more...]

Gearing Up for Hiking Season

By Tiffany Leave a Comment

These days I am pretty much all about CrossFit but I have not forgotten my other "love". Hiking. You basically take a guided or unguided hike through 10 of our 16 Metro parks. It is a great way to spend every Saturday for ten weeks...with your community, enjoying the changing of the leaves. I look forward to it each year. You get free refreshments after each hike and if … [Read more...]

The Magic of Herbal Remedies

By Tiffany 2 Comments

Many folks are afraid to dig in and try to use natural remedies because they still find it all very mysterious. Using leaves, flowers, roots, or dried herbs to heal what ails them still sounds so much like Hocus Pocus and it scares them a bit. The ingredients sounds so exotic and hard to find and they have no idea what a tincture is so why bother right? It is actually MUCH easier to get started than you think. You don't even have to be very knowledgeable or brave... you just have to start … [Read more...]

LillyBean Felt Market Fruit

By Tiffany 3 Comments

For many years I have loved felt foods for pretend play. They make the perfect addition to any play kitchen or pretend picnic. Sure you can get cheap plastic faux foods but it just isn't the same. Because I knew they would not be very hard to sew myself I often decided to go with wood instead of felt... ya know, why pay for something you can make right? The problem is that I never made any... the time it would take to draft a pattern and test and tweak just seemed like too large an undertaking … [Read more...]
