A Diet for the New Year – Or Why I am Going Primal

By Tiffany 17 Comments

When I posted about going grain free this week and also eschewing some other foods, I got many comments and emails asking what in the Sam Hill I WOULD be eating. I understand the confusion. As a nourished vegetarian most of my protein came from eggs, dairy, grains, legumes, beans, lentils, nuts and nut butters, greens, and protein supplements. This year I have decided to go grain free and pseudo grain free. This means everything from whole wheat and oats, to rice and Quinoa, is on the chopping … [Read more...]

The Best Choices for Vegan Shoes

By Tiffany 3 Comments

You don't have to be a vegan or a vegetarian to be concerned about the ethics of wearing animals. While many feel comfortable eating animals they may feel a bit less inclined to want to wear them around on their feet or on their handbag... especially when there are alternatives. The animal industry has an abysmal record when it comes to cruelty. And since the animals can't speak out about the matter ethical vegans have taken the lead in speaking for them. It is really thanks to their outspoken … [Read more...]

Jambu Shoes Review

By Tiffany 191 Comments

A few weeks back I tested out some eco friendly flip-flops. This past week I have been wearing vegan shoes courtesy of Jambu Adventure Designs. Many of their shoes (including mine above) are vegan which makes them a great choice for ethical vegans and vegetarians who still want fashionable footwear. They also have an earth friendly bent because their outsoles are made with partially recycled and re-usable compressed rubber. They also use 100% recycled, recyclable and re-usable packaging. So … [Read more...]

Raw Star Recipes – Interview with Bryan Au

By Tiffany 1 Comment

A few years ago I picked up the book Raw in Ten Minutes by Bryan Au and became an immediate fan. I LOVE raw foods but sometimes the prep can be so daunting... aka sprouting, juicing, dehydrating, etc. This is why the idea of raw meals in ten minutes sounded awesome to me and the food was good. The raw nachos and chili cheese fries stand out to me in particular. I have been anxiously awaiting his next book which I asked him some questions about several months ago. It just recently came out for … [Read more...]

What is The Paleo Diet?

By Tiffany 8 Comments

More and more health food blogs are popping up that tout the benefits of a primal or Paleo diet. What exactly is a Paleo Diet? Well, the easiest way to decipher what it is is to call it the caveman diet. Some of them even appear to want to club their veggie eating neighbors over the heads with a drumstick. The basic idea is that we need to eat what cavemen ate before modern inventions like farming and food processing. So they eat fish, lean meats, eggs, nuts, fruit, greens, and seeds. They do … [Read more...]
