Getting children to eat healthy foods with lots of fresh fruit, veggies, and greens is often times no easy task. Many children just aren't adventurous when it comes to food. It is also hard for us moms when so many of the foods children gravitate to these days are not the healthiest options. Why would they want to try that veggie omelet you made with pastured eggs and those funny things called leeks when the Leprechaun on TV has a more "charming" breakfast in mind for them. Add to this the fact … [Read more...]
Let’s Talk Poop – Are You Doing It All Wrong?
In my home you might hear poop talk a little more than in the typical family household. Not potty jokes or anything like that but real, honest discussion about how important pooping is and why we need to make sure the plumbing is humming along okay. I wasn't always gung ho about poop, it just kinda happened around the age of 28. That is the year I found out I had stage 3 colon cancer. I was faced with a big surgery to remove a large section of colon and most of my lower lymph nodes and at … [Read more...]
Paleo for Health – Don’t Be a Hater
I was motivated to write this post after a headline popped up on my Facebook feed today that declared the Paleo diet to be "pathetic". If you love your rice and sourdough bread then I understand why you are sick to death of hearing about paleo and why that slice of bread in your hand is B-A-D. You don't want to … [Read more...]
Transitioning Kids to REAL Food
I often get questions about how to transition kids to healthier REAL foods. Like many, my own parenting career started with me feeding my kids the Standard American Diet (SAD). My oldest child got his start on formula followed by hot dogs, mac and cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets, deli meats, and the like. Some of that carried over to my second child because it was already established as the "good" food to my oldest. It wasn't until I quit working to stay home with my kids that I spent a large … [Read more...]
Homegrown Organic Eggs
For those of us who live an organic lifestyle (or try really hard to), it’s knowing where our food comes from that matters to us most. What confirmed my conversion was learning my son’s developmental delays were due to a dysfunctional digestive system and vitamin deficiency. Since his system can’t efficiently remove toxins, I have to minimize his exposure. My sister’s organic choices are based on healthy eating and being environmentally conscious. Both of us have chicken coops in the … [Read more...]
