Your Garden May Be Harming the Bees, Not Helping Them

By Tiffany 5 Comments

The decline of the bees has been a concern of mine for several years now. I first wrote about why we need bees three years ago and then just again recently with an article on how to attract more bees to your yard and local community. I see personally just how few bees we have buzzing around these days and of course the headlines are full of news too, such as the massive bee deaths that just occurred in Oregon. Movies such as Vanishing of the Bees also highlight the growing problem and it is a … [Read more...]

Raw Star Recipes – Interview with Bryan Au

By Tiffany 1 Comment

A few years ago I picked up the book Raw in Ten Minutes by Bryan Au and became an immediate fan. I LOVE raw foods but sometimes the prep can be so daunting... aka sprouting, juicing, dehydrating, etc. This is why the idea of raw meals in ten minutes sounded awesome to me and the food was good. The raw nachos and chili cheese fries stand out to me in particular. I have been anxiously awaiting his next book which I asked him some questions about several months ago. It just recently came out for … [Read more...]

Shopping At Farmer’s Markets with Food Stamps

By Tiffany 28 Comments

An article on the NY Daily News caught my eye today about young adults without kids using their food stamps at local farmer's markets to buy farm fresh veggies, local honey, baked goods, and wild caught rabbit meat and salmon. Surprisingly the article did not insinuate that somehow accepting food stamps makes you only deserving of Twinkies and Ramen noodles like I thought it would... of course the comments are a different story. I liked this article because I think allowing people to use … [Read more...]

The Dangers of Synthetic Vitamins

By Tiffany 42 Comments

Nutritional supplement companies have done a brisk business over the years because of the general concern that modern food processing and lifestyle preferences may be having a detrimental impact on our nutritional intake. We may readily consume foods that have almost no nutritional value (think Pop Tarts and soda). Our soil is also depleted continuously by bad farming practices and thus the "healthy" food grown on many farms is lacking. The message consumers are receiving from supplement … [Read more...]

Nutrition at School

By Tiffany 4 Comments

The subject of healthy meals at school has been consuming alot of my thoughts lately so I thought I would share my feelings on this hot topic and also tell you why this has become an issue in my family. We all want our children to eat healthy food right? We may put alot of time and effort into making their meals as nutritious and healthy as possible but we sometimes we may not be in charge of their food options. The majority of children attend public school and monitoring what they eat while … [Read more...]
