3 Steps to Clutter Free Living

By Tiffany 1 Comment

Getting organized is good for your health. I know my mental attitude and outlook improves a hundred fold when my house is clean and orderly. When it is chaos, my life seems to mirror that. I am grumpy, unmotivated, less likely to be patient with my kids, and less likely to make good decisions. Who wants to cook that healthy slow food when the kitchen is a wreck and the pantry is so stuffed I cannot find the things I need? Ordering takeout starts to sounds a little too good. Likewise who wants to … [Read more...]

10 Steps to Planting Organic Veggies in Newspaper Pots

By Guest 5 Comments

Guest post by Debbie Steinberg Kuntz, founder & editor of Odyssey Outdoors.   If you want to know where your food comes from, there's no better way than to grow it yourself! That's just what we did with a group of families last weekend in the outdoor family group we formed about a year ago.  We followed these 10 easy steps. 1.     Gather supplies. We started with newspaper, some beautiful organic seeds that would grow in early spring in our area, organic potting soil, … [Read more...]

thredUp – Online Children’s Clothing Consignment

By Tiffany 3 Comments

I am a hard core thrifter and second hand shopper. Just about all of our clothing, for all five of us, (minus socks and underwear) comes from second hand stores or consignment shops locally. The exception to this is that the husband and I will often get a limited amount of fitness clothing and gear new, since it is so hard to find used, in good condition. I have yet to see a pair of Fila Skeletoes or Five Fingers at a thrift store ya know? Depending on what I need I choose the shop that will … [Read more...]

Okabashi Recyclable Shoes and Flip-Flops

By Tiffany 14 Comments

In the past I have been a flip-flop addict of sorts. Years ago it was not uncommon for me to have 10 or more pairs... of JUST flip-flops. In recent years though I curtailed my habit because they are generally so flimsy (lasting only one season) and they are heavy on plastics and foam. They were just a nightmare in the green department. So I tided myself over with sneakers (sniff) that last much longer and eco friendlier shoes when I could swing it. Anyway when an eco conscious shoe company … [Read more...]

Throw Out Fifty Things

By Tiffany 12 Comments

Over the weekend I dived into the book Throw Out Fifty Things - Clear the Clutter and Find Your Life by Gail Blanke. It is not so much about minimalism as it is about taking the beginning steps to decluttering.  The idea is to have the concrete goal of getting rid of fifty things in all the main rooms of your house. Items of the same type count as one... so 5 pairs of shoes is only one item in your overall fifty. I started reading it on Saturday morning and by noon I was knee deep in … [Read more...]
