Three Green Laundry Products You Need To Try

By Tiffany 4 Comments

"Green laundry" does not refer to what happens to your whites when you wash them with colors. Or maybe that is only my laundry. We have three people in the house (including myself) whose fave color is some shade of green or aqua. Green laundry actually means eco-friendly washing practices that emphasize biodegradability and less waste. Why is this important? Well it matters what we pour down the pipes and put against our skin and many conventional laundry products are heavy on the toxics. … [Read more...]

Buying in Bulk is Green

By Tiffany 3 Comments

One of the biggest environmental problems we face is packaging waste. For most of the public every shopping trip they take results in lots and lots of packaging...cereal boxes, cans or bags of nuts, bags of rice and beans, plastic milk jugs, etc. There are quite a few steps we can take to reduce our contribution to the packaging waste stream and one huge one is to simply eat real, local foods and not the processed foods that are more typically found in boxes and plastic bags. Yet there … [Read more...]

Preserve Colanders – Recycled and BPA Free

By Tiffany 2 Comments

All this week I have been using a Preserve colander in the kitchen. There is just no better kitchen gadget than a colander for washing all the fresh fruits and veggies we eat. Our colanders also do double duty as produce bowls on the counter when they are not in use. I am loving my Preserve colander too. Preserve is no stranger company to me. I am already a big fan of their toothbrushes. What I love, love, love about Preserve... other than their fantastically designed products... is the fact … [Read more...]

Shampoo Bars – A Green Option

By Tiffany 25 Comments

As I mentioned yesterday I am a big fan of shampoo bars. They are usually all I use in fact because they have a big green benefit...no waste. There is no plastic shampoo bottle to throw away and that could be quite a bit of plastic over time not entering the waste stream. I have used many different shampoo bars and my favorites are the ones that come wrapped in fabric or a simple strip of paper...then the fabric/paper can be reused in crafts or composted. Shampoo bars also last me a long time … [Read more...]

Reusable Bottles BPA Free for Everyone!

By Tiffany 168 Comments

I have dedicated a fair amount of time to exploring safe sippy cups and sports-type bottles for kids on this blog but haven't really explored the options for mom and dad. Of course it is important that we aren't sucking down BPA either and having a water bottle around is one of the best ways to ensure we actually drink our water throughout the day. The PET disposable bottles are probably the worst thing we could use. They are single use and add to the waste stream. They also have leaching … [Read more...]
