I was reading a little tidbit sent to me by Ideal Bite and was horrified to learn that many antibacterial soaps actually have pesticides. And here I thought buying antibacterial soaps was great for killing germs on grimey little toddler hands. BUT….75% of liquid hand soaps sold in the United States contain triclosan, a registered pesticide by the EPA.
In addition, widespread use of antibacterial products may contribute to antibiotic resistance and weakened immune systems. So instead of reaching for that antibacterial soap….our best defense against germs is plain soap, water, and thorough scrubbing. Then we don’t have to worry about creating super resistant bacteria or dowsing our children’s hands with pesticides.
