I finally got to see WALL-E this weekend and LOVED it. I took my kids to a showing on Saturday night at my favorite local theatre called The Palace. It is really a historic Opera/Playhouse that plays movies on the weekends they aren’t having live shows. So imagine watching a movie with grand balconies overhead and lovely statues all around. Here is a pic. The tickets are only $4 for adults and $2 for kids and refreshments if you want them are only $1 a piece. LOVE that place!
But I digress, the movie has a strong environmental message. When the movie starts you see a deserted planet earth where garbage has completely overrun the planet and made life unsustainable. Wall-e is a remnant of the clean up attempt…a robot that compacts garbage and stacks it until it reaches skyscraper heights. He is eventually joined by a new and modern robot named Eva who is dropped off by a spaceship. Her directive is to find living plants or rather a sign that earth can sustain life again.
The story was very fun and the robot crush Wall-e has on Eva was just too cute. I also loved how the eco messages were weaved in there too. I think my absolute favorite part was how protective the remaining humans (in space) became when they realized what this little plant Eva found represented and how they would do anything to protect it and take care of it. We always take things for granted until they are gone right?
Anyway, did you see the movie? What did you think?
my little guy did a “review” of the movie wall-e on his little video blog http://dirtlantis.blogspot.com he saw it with daddy, mama’s not much for going to the movies!

I took my munchkins to see it twice! I agree it is a great way to show our munchkins what can happen to our planet if we don’t take care of it.We had some great discussions after the movie about all that we do and can do better for the earth.
We have a theater like that too! I’m going to try to post a photo, we’ll see how it goes.
We haven’t seen Wall-E yet, but we did see Free Willy this weekend and of course I sobbed.
We LOVED Wall-e. It wasn’t what I was expecting (though I’m not sure what I was expecting).
The kids are very worried about garbage (guess a cute little robot guy is more effective at getting the message across than Mommy!).
Now they are reminding me to recycle!
Speaking of recycling… stop over and enter to win an English Retread handbag.
Cheers!
Jamie
Oh my word! That theatre is gorgeous! We see movies over here in Japan in a big sterile theater and it costs about the equivalent of US$18 for one adult ticket, so needless to say, we don’t go often. Also, I’m breastfeeding our younger son at the moment so probably won’t be going again for a while. Wall-E sounds good, though, so I’m sure we’ll rent it once it comes out on DVD over here (probably in about 2019).
Well I haven’t got the chance the watch the movie just yet but after reading your review about it, my interests start to develop. Since it has environmental story plot, I think I would enjoy it even further.
My friend took her kids and they loved it. I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing it myself!
