Swiss Gold Tea Infusers

Ran across these awesome infusers while searching for a birthday gift for hubby next month. I am no tea expert because I don’t like it. It tastes like dirt water to me unless I add lots of sweetener and cream and then what’s the point of drinking of it? But the husband LOVES tea and I would love the fact that he loves tea if there were not tea baggies laying everywhere. So I guess a Swiss Gold Tea Infuser would really be a present for both of us. ;) It looks pretty nifty to me.

Anyone have a recommendation for a really tasty, organic loose leaf tea that could go with this?

Healing Pixie on hyena cart has some great teas. I love her Harvest Moon Chai.

I’m sure you are aware, but Mountain Rose Herbs has an awesome selection of loose leaf teas. I wonder if they have a chai though??? I love chai!!!!

I love my Swiss Gold infuser. I use it practically daily, especially in the colder months. I second Mountain Rose Herbs. I have a cabinet full of their teas. They have a fabulous black tea chai and one using rooibos which my kids love too. Many to choose from.

It isn’t organic (but many teas actually are technically grown organically and ethically but most companies don’t go through the certification process) but we love teas from Harney too. They have a cinnamon one that is just fabulous.

Looks like a fun little gaget. I would check around though and see if it makes the tea have a slight metallic taste.

I was researching how to make the best hot teas and everywhere I looked said absolutely do not sue metal in anything that goes into the tea… including the tea kettle.

I had never heard of that before, but am willing to give it a try since I have never really loved the tea I make compared to some I have tasted from others.

    Just thought I would share.

british, asiatic and indian peoples are consummate tea drinkers, they have all used metal to boil the water and to infuse their teas for centuries. there is no residual metallic taste, and it does not effect the taste nor impact on any of the “good stuff”. there are many good web sites for tea companies, however, trader joes, food basics and several other supermarket chains have good loose teas.

Does he like herbal tea? It might be fun to give him some herb seeds so he can grow his own. Chamomile, mint, catnip*, and lavender are all really easy to grow around here. *- catnip & chamomile tea is soooo relaxing.

BTW, I had a tea press until my kid broke it last week and it never gave the tea a metallic taste.

I’ve used a swiss gold tea infuser for over a decade now, and I’ve never noticed a metallic taste in my tea. My grandmother, who was also a tea lover, used one for years as well.

My favorite loose black tea is the Black Currant from Perennial Tea Room in Seattle. I get it shipped to me from their website, perennialtearoom.com.

I had an infuser like this (I think it was the same brand) but I didn’t like that the black parts were made out of plastic and that I was pouring boiling water on it. The toxins in plastic are more likely to leach out when exposed to really hot or really cold temperatures. So I traded in the old one for a new stainless steel infuser and it works great! Also, reuseit.com has some great insulated glass water bottles with built in tea infusers!
