Breakfast! What Are You Having?

A week in breakfasts…

Homemade Yogurt

More homemade yogurt. MUCH creamier no? I cannot take the credit though. My husband seems to have taken up this yogurt making hobby too and perfected it. Every single day he makes a new batch and he usually pairs it with honey, vanilla, and granola.

Green Smoothies

Green Smoothies – Yep it’s chilly outside but we still love our smoothies. This one had organic collard greens, my fave wheatgrass powder, banana, and frozen peaches. The kiddos got up from bed and devoured all of this. So yes, they had veggies for breakfast! Make sure to check out my book on Green Smoothie Recipes for Kids. They really do drink these veggie/fruity concoctions.

Berry Kefir Smoothie

The jar on the left is a half gallon ball jar filled with Kefir. When the fermenting jar on my counter gets thick enough and sour enough it goes into this jar that stays in the fridge. From there we turn it into delicious fermented milk smoothies. The one on the right is blended with frozen raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and a ripe banana for sweetener. Yum!

Next week I will trying my hand at coconut water Kefir using water Kefir grains!

  1. My whole family eats yogurt but I just can’t handle it! My husband would have to take up this project.

  2. The healthiest way to start the day is with a smoothie. I would recommend adding flax seed oil and shredded coconut to your Green Smoothies as well as your Kefir ones.

  3. Wow, your husband makes yogurt?! I’m amazed. Mine bakes and cooks – but yogurt? I might need to drop a hint ;)

Where can I get kefir and yogurt starters? I really want to try these!
    Thanks!
