Sinupret Syrup

Sinupret Syrup

SinupretI am sure you have heard the buzz recently about over the counter medicines for kids. I have avoided them like the plague for several years but it seems more and more doctors, drug companies, and family groups are getting hip to this danger and they are urging the FDA to ban over the counter medicines for kids 4-6 and under…some groups want it to be 12 and under. My personal opinion is that these medications are just chemical cocktails that suppress symptoms or mask them. They have no healing values whatsoever. They “may” help to ease the symptoms of illness that make us uncomfortable but that does not outweigh the dangers in giving our kids nasty chemicals at a time when they are already weak and sick. I think these pharma medicines are just bad news and need to go away.

On the flip side there are numerous natural remedies that can help our little ones feel better when they are sick. I wrote about some of these here and here. I swear by Sambucol too.

Now there is a new option for parents…Sinupret Natural Sinus, Respiratory and Immune Support from Bionorica. It is a special blend of European Elder, Common Sorrel, Cowslip, European Vervain and Gentian that been used in European countries for decades and is just now becoming available to moms in the US. It has been the #1 most widely recommended, scientifically tested nasal and sinus support formula in Germany for children for more than 70 years. It provides sinus support and immune support as well. Incredibly they claim that there has never been one serious side effect reported from Sinupret for Kids and it’s efficacy is so well-documented that it is the most prescribed product by pediatricians in Europe. Our own Dr. Bob Sears recommends it and gives it to his own kids.

It is made with natural and safe ingredients, it has no stimulants, caffeine, ephedra or pseudoephedrine, and no history of dangerous side effects. It is recommended for children ages 2 and older and it is also available in adult strength as Sinupret Plus.

  5. Beth

Awesome! Great article and really great to know!

  6. Julie

I have been seeing commercials for this all over now and I was wondering how safe it really is. I haven’t had a reason just yet to run out and buy it, but we will definitely be trying it out this winter if anyone in the family gets sick.

  7. I stumbled it, but I got an error, so I will check in a bit to make sure it worked :)

  9. I’ve been looking for this product! I’ll have to check out the website and see where it is available in my area.

  10. I would love to try this! I felt so awful a couple years ago after giving my 3 year old OTC cough medicine only to hear from our doctor later on that they were no longer considered safe! Ugh! Thanks for featuring this product!

  11. Lindsey

I am not a fan of typical “medicines” and I will have to try this out this winter if my kids get sick.

  12. Julie

This sounds like an awesome product, I’ll have to see where I can find it in Portland, OR. Hopefully it’s somewhere close to me!

  20. Kristin

I have been looking for this and haven’t been able to find it. I’d love to have these products for our family.

  21. Katherine Bracken

I looked at the ingrediants for this on Drugstore.com as I couldn’t find them on Amazon. They are: Water, Maltitol, Ethyl Alcohol, Cherry Flavor. Maltitol can cause intestinal problems as it is a sugar substitute & is ethyl alcohol a good thing in medicines for kids? I don’t mean to nit-pick, just wondering. Thanks.

  22. Kerri

I’m always looking for alternative cold remedies for kids. I’d like to try it.

  23. Anita

Oh I love that it comes with a Dr Sears recommendation!

  24. Becca

My household unfortunately needs this product! The handwashing isn’t cutting it now that my daughter has started preschool and I’m at my wits end. At the end of her colds she gets another one!

  25. skye

it’s great to know about safer (and healthy!) products for kids! thanks!

  26. Trisha

What a great giveaway. I’ve been wanting buy some.

  27. Rebecca

I cringe when my daughter is uncomfortable and I feel I have to give her something. I appreciate your rave review and feel even better this a product Dr Sears uses.

  28. Ecomom

I work as a nurse on a mother/baby unit and often have to float over to pediatrics. I see how terrible kids feel when they are sick. It is so great that we are seeing alternative therapy for children being used more and more. I would love to have a sample to try it out on my own children this winter.

  29. Kristen

sounds great! my mother in law is a nurse and my husband grew up with OTC meds and sees no reason why we can’t give them to our kids (whereas I get nervous about it). Something like this would allow us to help them feel better without all the nasty stuff in OTC meds!

  30. kristen

Couldn’t be more timely. Nasty cold going around here!

  31. Stefanie Stricker

Thank you for helping us find alternatives. There are way too many chemical exposures for our children these days.

  32. casual friday everyday

I also avoid using things like cough medicine etc. I do give them Tylenol for the pain though…I know, I know ;) I’d love to be entered into this contest. Thanks.

    Nell

  33. That is so awesome! I would love to try that if we end up needing it this year!!! Never heard of this before. Wonder where it can be purchased?

  34. erika

My kids generally don’t get very sick and I try not to give them too many medicines.

  35. Molomatic

My daughter gets asthma whenever she gets a cold, so I’d love to try this! Sounds fabulous. We are on our 3rd cold of the season already (preschool germs I’m sure). Thanks!!

  36. Vivian Jane

I’ve seen billboards for this near the farmers market where I shop. My toddler and I rarely get ill, but my husband who eats SAD does each winter. Homeopathic remedies don’t work for him. Can’t wait to try another natural remedy!

  37. Valerie Otto

I’d love to win this! If not, thanks for the info on this product.

  38. Tracy

My TV has been bombarded by commercials for sinupret lately and I have been very intersted into looking into it. I am always very skeptical of when companies use the word natural so It is great to see that it is a reputable product with out harmful ingredients for my little guy! This will definitely be a product we try when the time arises.

  39. Skysmom

I have also seen the commercials and was very interested in this product. With the up coming flu season, it is great to have a more natural and safe alterantive :)

  40. Jackie

This sounds like a great product. I also have been avoiding over the counter medicines for awhile for my kids and am always looking for more natural ways to help them. That would have been great to have in my house last week when we all had a bad cold!

  41. Becky

I would love to try the stuff. My doctor recently prescribed oral Albuterol for my son b/c of a cough. I didn’t fill the Rx and when we went to see him again fro my other son’s Well Child visit, he asked why we didn’t fill it and he rolled his eyes at us!

I would also love to hear your take on the Flu Vaccine. It seems that everyone is pushing it these days. When I tell people that my kids won’t get it b/c I don’t want them to, I get some “shame, shame” type responses.

  42. Sharon

It’s great to see a ‘real’ natural alternative. Hopefully we won’t have to try it out…lol..

  43. Sharon

I added it to my facebook…does that count?!

  44. Karen

it’s great to know that we can get these types of products in north america now. i have been using a simular sinus product for the last 15 years but had to wait for someone to go to europe to get it.

  45. Jar

It is amazing how far ahead of us Europe is on the Complementary Medicine front. I am hopeful that NIH’s NCCAM will be better funded soon so that we can begin the process of validating the effectiveness of these natural remedies. Thanks for the post.

  46. My kids and I need this so badly. Some of us are currently taking sudafed, tylenol, claritin and singulair plus we use other complementary more holistic methods to combat asthma, allergies and debilitating headaches. So far the biggest improvement has been from eliminating the toxic cleaning/self-care products from our home and replacing them with more natural/non-toxic alternatives and regular chiropractic care. I do what I can to avoid prescription and OTC meds. but we have a pretty limited budget with 10 people in the family.

  47. I would love to try this out for my son. I have mostly used Hyland’s with pretty good success. I had wonderful success with Hyland’s Colic and Teething tablets!!
Thank you so much for posting about this, I am a true believer in alternative medicince, especially for our little ones!!

  48. Cheryl Crowe

I’d love to win! Sounds like a great thing!

  49. julie

I am happy that finally people are waking up to the dangers of OTC meds for kids. I am very “anti-medication”, especially with mainstream meds. My kids are rarely sick as well, but it would be nice to have such a great product on hand if one does get sick this winter. Thanks for sharing!! :)

  50. julie

OOps, disregard this comment, I’ve already commented, but I checked a box I didn’t want to, and I have to comment again to uncheck it,lol….

  51. Greta

Wow! I just got home from buying this at the store! : ) My poor little girl was up all night with a stuffy nose that has continued today– I’d seen the ads and decided to give it a try! I think it has to accumulate in her system to have the most effect, but I DO think the one dose she’s had so far has helped. Anyway, great give away– I’m sure I’d love some more!

Whats everyone doing for safety precautions for Halloween? My husband came across an article (http://i-newswire.com/pr220892.html) with some info about background checking neighbors. I thought that may be a little overboard, but it had some other good suggestions for some precautions I haven’t thought about. Last year my youngest son came down with a massive fever after Halloween. I almost thought about just taking the kids to our church’s fall festival this year instead of door-to-door to prevent that from happening again. I don’t know yet. What’s your advice? Am I over-reacting or just being a concerned mom?

  54. Heather

I use it with my kids and it does really work!

  55. Darcy

Thank you for featuring another great product. I usually put off getting something until the kids are sick, so I would be ahead of the game to have something on hand and then hope that we don’t need it this winter!

  56. Melissa Oliver

Thanks for this info and giveaway, Tiffany. I am on the look out for natural remedies for the family.

  57. Tiffany M

We are currently in the middle of a wick cold in our house. I have considered trying this. Would love to win it!

  58. Carrie

We would love to try this. My daughter unfortunately seems to catch everything. Thanks for the information, would love to win it, but if not, will probably try it anyways!

  59. Ann

  60. Nikki

    nikki

  61. Melinda S.

I have got to find this product!!! I myself don’t like to take meds…so, I don’t care to give to my boys either….so, I’m always trying to find something to make them more comfortable when not feeling the best.

  62. Danielle Wollner

Thanks for the chance to win – would love to give it a try!

  63. Mailee

I hope I can find this at the local drugstore. It sounds like a great alternative!

  64. Nichole

I will be using this for my child and also myself if we need to. I wonder if you can take it will preggo???

  65. Leslie

I would love to have this for when my girls get sick!

  66. Mommy of three

I’d love to give this a try… my kids seem to get colds a little too often and I avoid medicines like the plague!!

  67. Penny Oubre

I would very much like to try this as I only use natural remedies for my family. My baby is currently going through a cold at this very moment that keeps coming back. This just might do the trick.

  68. paige

We could put this to good use, pronto!

    Thanks!

  69. Robin

would love to try the product!!! have 2 girls ages 2 & 5, so I’m sure could put it to good use. I’m looking for a natural product, so it would be nice to try it. thanks Tiffany!

  70. Jami

I would love to try this product! I have an 18 month old, so I am fearful of trying it just yet… since it is not recommended on children under age 2. He constantly has a cold, so this will be great!!

  71. Karen

So far my 15 month old hasn’t needed anything, but with winter coming I am definitely trying to figure out what to have on hand in case he comes down with a bad cold. Great to know that these are products to try.

  72. Cindy

I would love to try this. I have yet to give my 3 year old any medications and would like an all natural choice when I want to.

  73. Keisha Foster

I’ve seen commercials for this product and was curious about how it worked. Now that you have researched the product and feel good enough to recommend it, I would definitely like to try it.

  74. Elisabeth

We love Sambucol too, but have not really needed it very much! I love how herbs are part of the pharmaceutical repetoire in Europe. The FDA is so behind the times when it comes to natural products. Thanks for the info!

  75. According to random.org the winners are:

    Congrats!!!

  76. Sinupret is 8% alcohol per dose. It contains an unproven herbal concoction which is not recognized by German or US health authorities as effective in any way. Clinical trials conducted on Sinupret fail to meet the double blind, randomized gold standard (try a search on PubMed).

A good diet, rest and hygiene will do more than any dose of Sinupret. The removal of OTC medicines (which are FDA regulated) is completely unrelated to Sinupret (which is NOT FDA regulated).

I would not recommend this product at all for anyone.

  77. DS

I have seen a huge difference in my son since using Sinupret this winter. He is 8 and has had cronic sinus problems since he was a baby. This is the first winter that he is not suffering, we even traveled to Europe for winter break, I got sick but he didn’t. We have gone through 2-1/2 bottles since fall season. I recommend it to all my friends with kids.

  78. walt bakes

Hmmm… Does anyone wonder what is do special about extracting, concentrating and combining chemicals “from nature” as opposed to ones created in a lab? I would love to see some explanation of why these folk remedies are effective. The fact that Europeans have used this for years doesn’t impress me much. That is the same as saying that blood letting is effective because it was accepted practice for hundreds of years. Put on your thinking caps, folks.

  79. Walt,

The compounds created in a lab are inferior to what can be found in nature. Just look at synthetic vitamins…they may say Vitamin C or have minerals but yet they are not the same as what you get from an orange. Most of them don’t even get absorbed by the body yet they aren’t putting that on the vitamin bottle.

Your argument about blood letting is ridiculous. Did I say that standards from 19th century England are superior to ours???

The fact is that European safety standards are MUCH stricter than those in the US. They are also much more friendly to the natural remedies that the US outlaws because they will hurt pharma profits. Quite simply Europe has not fallen quite so far into the trap of money at all costs trap like the US has.

Your skepticism in natural remedies has been bought and paid for by pharma. You’ve been had.

  80. Walt Bakes

I’d still like to see an explanation of why Sinupret does what it does, and why it is supposedly effective.

I’ve read Dr. Sears’s endorsement for this product and he says something vague like that it “supports healthy nasal passages,” which doesn’t explain much.

I’m curious to know how this product has been tested and how it was developed. I’ve seen no information of this on the Sinupret website.

I mentioned bloodletting because that was accepted practice for many years, and one of Sinupret’s claims to efficacy was that it has been used for something like 70 years. Length of use isn’t a guarantee of results.

  81. Angela

I’ve got to say, we tried Sinupret with my almost 3 year old daughter during spring-time allergy season… it was like she got “hit” by the pollen and suddenly had a lot of stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, some coughing, swollen sinuses, etc, and I can’t say I saw much difference at all using Sinupret, even after 3 days! We finally just went back to the homeopathic stuff to get much better results. Children’s Allergy Relief by NatraBio never fails to bring her good relief. You have to dose it a little more often than the Sinupret’s 3 x a day, but it gets great results, plus has a little echinacea in it to help out, and we’ve never had a notable side affect at all.

  82. Karla Verardo

I found Sinupret at Walmart this past spring. My little girl (2.5 at the time) had been sick since she reached 6 months old (that’s when I went back to work and she began staying at a daycare). We went through three rounds of pneumonia (after she had already been given 3 pneumoccocal vaccinations) and had been on numerous antibiotics when I looked at her doctor and said, “I have to find something else because these antibiotics are about to quit working.” The doctor looked at me and simply said, “I know.” That’s it. Nothing more. No suggestions. So I left angry and upset because I didn’t know how to help my little girl and her weak immune system. That’s when i went to our local walmart and found Sinupret. I figured, what the heck – herbs have worked alot longer than any of these chemicals that man has made. It’s got to be better. And it was. It did not jolt her immune system back into gear because it had been beaten down so much, but it did help. I took her to an herbalist who agreed that the sinupret was doing its job and she gave me a recipe to make my own (a little bit more potent) since it is a little pricey and not quite as strong as her body needed at the time. It has been eight months since my daughter has been sick – she just contracted a cold from me unfortunately – and I am headed to walmart this evening to pick up some more sinupret. I love this stuff and am so glad the FDA felt gracious enough to let it into our country.

  83. mommabyadoption

Sinupret is the only thing that stopped my son’s sinus infection. He even had his tonsils out but that had stopped him from getting sinus infection until I used Sinupret. I decided to try it myself as I keep waking up with a runny nose and my tonsils have been enlarged enough to touch in the middle for about 20 year. After two day of using Sinupret for Adults the tonsils were shrunk by half

Is Sinupret for Kids sold anywhere in the Dallas, TX area?  I am having a hard time finding it.
