In a recent post I talked about how one city has recognized the harmful effects of a chemical called bisphenol A (BPA) and is tyring to ban it. Well, actually they HAVE banned it but chemical companies are now filing lawsuits to reverse this legislation.
Today I read a related story about how sciences professor Fred vom Saal is determined to show that plastics corporations are just as dangerous as tobacco companies and that bisphenol A (BPA) is dangerous even in small doses, which can cause brain damage, abnormal organ development, and hyperactivity. “Our research showed harmful effects at a dose 2,500 times lower than the chemical industry said could cause harm,” vom Saal said.
Interestingly vom Saal claims that shortly before he published this information a chemical industry representative from Dow Chemical Company visited him and indicated the company wanted the findings withheld. “This is a direct quote. He said, ‘Can we arrive at a mutually beneficial outcome where you hold off publishing this study?'” vom Saal said.
Of course Dow now claims that this did not happen, but really now, who are we going to believe? This is just another case where big business knows that their products are causing harm and they will do anything to keep that from you.
It truly scares me the information they try to keep from us and that we wouldn’t know about if not for people like you taking time out of yoru day to inform us so thank you.
