Where Do the Children Play?

Please watch this fabulous video about how important play is to kids and how important the setting is. How we spend our time as a child affects who we grow up to be. With children spending so much time inside what will that mean for future generations? What will your kids remember about their childhood? Can the lifestyle and attitudes of modern day parents be an obstacle for meaningful play? These are important questions.

Really nice video. Thanks for sharing!
My best childhood memories are also from playing. And the best are from imaginative and simple playing. I try to provide my child with this opportunity to freely play all day, and I see how happy he is when left to just play the way he wants.

However, I do find a hard time finding other kids with free time to play. We’re often the only ones in the park and other open places, and it seems that to find playmates you need to go to structured places *for kids*.

  2. I read your comment about being stuck in Google reader and felt like you were talking to me so I came over to say hello! Totally agree about kids needing unstructured outdoor play. My best moment of the week (maybe year) was finding out that a new family moved in down the street with boys the exact same age as mine. Yeah- playmates!
