Just wondering what you use for garbage bags? I never buy garbage bags I just use what ever plastic bags I have around for my garbage.

    • Susan, in general it is easy to use no bag at all if you only thrown away dry stuff. BUT this is easier for families who don’t eat meat and can compost all their “wet” waste. For families whose garbage service providers require plastic you can get semi biodegradable bags or ones made from recycled plastic. There are no easy answers for that one.

This makes me sad, I posted it up on my facebook page so now people don’t think I am crazy with all my new decions to not use plastic… Thank you for this.

Love the blog! We are currently living in Germany where everyone is required to seperate their compost-ables. The stores sell a “plastic” compost bag that breaks down with the stuff in it. The Europeans are in so many ways far ahead of us Americans! Another thing I have noticed is packaging. There is far less here and what you do get is 99% of the time recyclable. The recycling services here are far better as well. And shopping bags? If you don’t bring your own you get charged for every one you use. It’s just normal to see everyone with a canvas bag, woven basket or other option everywhere. I saw a cute little old couple walking from the market, holding hands and he was carrying a basket filled with bread and produce and wine. So sweet!

  4. Great information. I’ve been trying to do my part and live a “greener” life. Thanks for the great tips.

  5. I’m with Wendy–I’ve just moved to Seattle but this city is one of the greenest ones I’ve been in. Everybody carries reusable bags when they buy groceries, the city requires tons of recycling and composting, and I’m loving being able to buy “biobags” for my composting. Even still, there is more recycling I’d like to see happen here (for instance, we can’t recycle lids less than 3 inches across so they have to go into a landfill somewhere).

The video was horrific–makes you think twice!
