This was just announced yesterday…Mattel has recalled more toys for issues of lead paint. I was pretty much able to wave off the other recalls without too much concern since I was sure we didn’t have any of those toys but this one saw me sweating just a little. This recall affects Barbie play sets and dream houses. My daughter is a Barbie fan and since I was a big time Barbie fan myself for years growing up I can’t bash Barbie or think bad of her. She is better than Brats right?
Well luckily she didn’t have any of the affected toys….so far. ;) But she does have a Barbie dreamhouse and it came with a “pet” which seems to be the one tainted toy in most of these sets. This is alarming because if I can think one toy that might be lovingly carried around and possibly chewed on by little brother it could very well be the cute kitty or puppy.
Just how long are these recalls going to be a weekly occurrence? Until they find something I DO have I suspect. :(
this is out of control. i just cant help but wonder how long they knew about this before they finally decided it was time to start recalling items.
These recalls have been a wake up call for me. We don’t really “do” plastic in our home. Maybe 1 out of every 10 toys the kids own will have some part that is plastic (the wheels on a wooden car, etc.). But I have been operating under the, greatly mistaken, assumption that “if it is wood, it is good” and that just is not the case. I’ve been fooling myself. Now I am wondering how many of their “wonderful wooden toys” are just as tainted as the “cheap plastic” ones. His Thomas Trains that were recalled for lead paint are a perfect example. I thought I was buying quality when I bought them. :(
