The term holistic (or wholistic) refers to addressing the whole person...mentally, socially, and physically. We usually think of it in terms of alternative medicine that treats the whole person and not just a symptom or a disease as does conventional medicine. Valentine's Day though is a wonderful time to embrace this concept as well - to embrace the heart, mind, and body of your sweetie. Here are some ideas for a holistic Valentine's Day: 1. Paleo Banana Zucchini Bread Recipe
I created this recipe shortly before I started the Whole30, which I did all last month. Blogging about delicious grain free bread that I cannot have on the program (due to the coconut sugar) was not on the menu so alas I bring it to you now. The Whole30 was a huge success by the way and I find that staying strict paleo has gotten much easier and after the 30 days I decided I didn't need dairy anymore so I am now dairy free (except for ghee) and truly paleo, not just primal. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Breakfast Cookies or Nests – No Bake!
As mentioned when I made my Primal Coconut Raspberry Muffins last week I am trying my hardest not to buy LaraBars or any prepacked snack/meal bars anymore. Well this weekend I found a darn near perfect solution and I am rather … [Read more...]
Lily’s Dark Chocolate
One of the perks of a paleo diet is that I don't try to limit my chocolate intake. I just make sure it is dark chocolate and I enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! I have tried so many different and wonderful dark chocolates since I started this new "diet" and I have been blown away by how much I actually like chocolate when I am eating the good stuff. Most of the chocolate marketed to us is crap...nutritionally and taste-wise. One that I tried many weeks ago and forgot to mention (oops!) is Lily's Dark … [Read more...]
TGIF – Magnesium, Gardening, and Diva Cup Cleaning
TGIF! I hope everyone has an awesome weekend! I updated facebook fans recently about my progress with magnesium supplementation. This update came roughly one month after I wrote the original post about my deficiency. I woke up one morning to find that my monthly visitor had arrived with nary a symptom. No PMS at all. No backaches, minimal bloating, no fatigue whatsoever, and no chocolate cravings. My skin also gets a bit oily and I may get a tiny pimple or two this time of month. I had none … [Read more...]
