Okabashi Recyclable Shoes and Flip-Flops

By Tiffany 14 Comments

In the past I have been a flip-flop addict of sorts. Years ago it was not uncommon for me to have 10 or more pairs... of JUST flip-flops. In recent years though I curtailed my habit because they are generally so flimsy (lasting only one season) and they are heavy on plastics and foam. They were just a nightmare in the green department. So I tided myself over with sneakers (sniff) that last much longer and eco friendlier shoes when I could swing it. Anyway when an eco conscious shoe company … [Read more...]

The Shelter Pet Project

By Tiffany 32 Comments

It amazes me that with so many animals living in shelters that we STILL have a need for pet stores and puppy breeders. It bothers me on so many levels. Even people who don't profess to be "green" will often talk a good game about recycling and reusing because it is smart and efficient. But that's resources. We can't waste resources. But can we waste lives either? Why on earth would we choose to buy "new" when there are living, breathing, animals in shelters waiting for adoption. They go on … [Read more...]

Go Green! Go Barefoot!

By Tiffany 7 Comments

I am a HUGE fan of Barefoot Books. My kids have  many of their titles, some of which I reviewed here, like Whole World and The Boy Who Grew Flowers. Whole World is an amazing book with a music CD and it follows the popular children’s song The Whole World. Recently we got the Whole World Fun Eco Activities Book which is a beautiful workbook and companion to the original book and it has an eco theme. Eco-quizes, minibeasts word search, recycling game, draw your ideal home… Children will love … [Read more...]

Green and Frugal Go Together

By Tiffany 3 Comments

My friend Carrie over at NMTR has a blog and podcast that addresses natural mothering. Recently she posted that she would now be including some talk of money on her blog and asked for reader opinions. Does the subject of money management and frugality detract from the natural mom message? I say no. For me, green living is a huge part of natural mothering and green living and a life of frugality go together like peanut butter and jelly. Think about it. What are some of the key areas of green … [Read more...]

Plastic Bags Banned

By Tiffany 2 Comments

San Francisco's city council voted Tuesday (March 27, 2007) to become the first U.S. city to ban plastic bags from large supermarkets to help promote recycling. Under the legislation approved by the city's Board of Supervisors, large supermarkets and drugstores will not be allowed to offer plastic bags made from petroleum products starting in six months. All of this is being done to reduce the amount of plastic bags being consumed and ending up in our landfills and to encourage recycling. Since … [Read more...]
