Amazing Grass Green Superfood Powder!

Amazing Grass Green Superfood Powder!

Friut Smoothie with Wheat Grass

A few weeks back I was reading a raw foods blog (sorry can’t remember which) and I read a review of Amazing Grass products. At the time I mentally filed it away as a reminder to try them sometime. Then a few days later I walked by a display in Whole Foods and they were handing out samples of the original flavor. It was YUM! I bought a couple canisters right then including the berry flavor and the Kidz Chocolate flavor. Quite simply we are in LOVE with Amazing Grass…

They are raw vegan, certified organic, totally delicious products. They are a tasty blend of alkalizing greens, antioxidant rich whole food fruits and vegetables, immune boosting support herbs, and friendly pre & probiotics in powder form. You add it to water, nut milks, juice, smoothies, etc. The one I tried at Whole Foods was just water. Just look at this list of benefits from their web site:

  • Contains our blend of Amazing Grass Organic cereal grasses and organic alfalfa.
  • Loaded with a complete spectrum of the three major Green SuperFoods; Cereal Grasses, Alfalfa and Micro-Algae.
  • More organic whole-leaf greens per gram than any other Green SuperFood – Not from Juice!
  • Contains no Soy Lecithin fillers
  • Naturally balanced powerhouse of Anti-oxidants, B-Vitamins, Beta Carotene, Bioflavonoids, Lycopene, Folic Acid, Dietary Fiber, Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD), and Omega 3, 6 & 9 Essential Fatty Acids.
  • Complete “Live Food” with beneficial enzymes, carotenoids and phytonutrients (plant pigments) that help fight free-radical damage, aging and tumor causing mutations.
  • Contains probiotics- the friendly microorganisms that promote healthier digestion and regular elimination.
  • Contains prebiotics- selectively promotes the growth of healthy intestinal bacteria.
  • Alkaline green plant foods balance acidic pH levels.
  • Naturally detoxifies and boosts your immune system.
  • Contains essential fatty acids (EFA’s) that help keep skin soft, elastic, and youthful.
  • No Synthetic, Isolated or Fractionated Vitamins & Minerals.

This is some amazing stuff right? So you would rightly expect it to taste like crap right? Well, sorry to disappoint but this stuff is beyond delicious. I ate a spoonful of pure powder and it was GOOD. It tastes even better in a drink. I just love the fact that it is sourced from whole foods too. It is the next best thing to eating all those fruits and veggies in tact.

After a few days of drinking a couple servings a day I have noticed a huge difference in my energy levels. My kids are always energetic so who knows if they are feeling it as well but Amazing Grass DOES pass the kidlet taste test. See below for irrefutable, scientific, lab approved PROOF!! Video below:

Obviously that was the chocolate flavor designed especially for kids. But they also like the berry flavor. As shown in the picture above we added a cup of frozen strawberries, a ripe banana, a cup of spinach, a handful of ice, a cup of fresh OJ, and a cup of water to our indispensable Vita-Mix blender. Then I blended all of that with two scoops of Amazing Grass Berry Green Superfood.

Doesn’t it look oddly delicious?! Well it ended up being a rust colored smoothie that was BIG on taste. Every sip was accompanied by a full bodied groan of pleasure. Don’t even think about drinking it in front of other people, lest your enthusiasm embarrass you. Or you could just tell them you are impersonating Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally.

You sound so enthoused about this product I think I’m going to head out to my HFS today and see if they have it or can order it in! It sounds awesome. I already have green smoothies for breakfast every morning (and I make them the same way you do). Maby I could finally get my (picky) daughter to drink them! Thanks for the post!

Oh, that was a great video! Your son’s roar of “YUM!” and your daughter’s cute little thumbs up are pretty good testimonies to how delicious this stuff must be! We haven’t tried the Amazing Grass yet, although I’ve seen it in Whole Foods and all over blogland :) That’s an impressive list of benefits too. I’m going to check it out via your links.

Your wood bowls are awesome too, love those! And am positively CRACKING UP over your When Harry Met Sally reference! We made a raw chocolate tart this week that had us all loudly moaning with delight, all 7 of us — definitely a Sally Moment :)

Thanks for sharing this great info, as always!

I bought a vita mix last year and we use it frequently. however, I have not tried superfood powders yet. I’ve been concerned that they aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. Yours though looks great! Have you seen the stuff they sell at GNC? I tried it once and it tastes good enough, but I’m not sure about it. Thank you for the run down here of the specific benefits. I’ve always wondered what was meant by “superfood”. And, yes! A vita – mix is an essential household appliance. :-)

Thanks for sharing about this. I have never heard of it, but will look for it in our health food store.

It looks and sounds good, but the best part is that it’s really good for you too – a winning combination!

Quick question, does it have lactose, whey, or any milk derivative in it? Am trying to stay away because of bf’ing and baby has intolerance. Thanks! Great review.

    • Doris, it is vegan so it won’t have any animal products in it.

oh, right, missed the whole vegan label…LOL

  6. I’ve been meaning to try a green powder in my smoothies. I pack them so full of leafy greens that I never think about it, but these powders contain a wide variety of nutrients that I otherwise wouldn’t add such as algae and grasses.

I have seen this in my local health food stores…and have been eyeballing it for awhile now. I can’t wait to get this for my son…when he turns two in about 6 months. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

  8. I’m a huge fan of Amazing Grass’ products. Great stuff. I just had their wheat grass powder in my protein shake. :)

I love the video. How adorable! Lucky you to have such an awesome family!!!

    Cheers XOXO,

My 2 year old has been getting a chocolate amazing green “smoothie” every morning when she 1st wakes up since I weened her. She has an incredible healthy immune system/digestive system, I attribute it to breastfeeding and giving her Amazing Grass Super Green daily since then.

Whole Foods had some small packets to try. Single servings for $1 something. Loved it. I made one and we all tried it. My son thought it was too sweet. The rest of us fought over it. Time to order. I think my son would like the chocolate. We had tried the berry kind.

Can I drink this while breastfeeding? :)

  12. I recently tried the kids chocolate version and love it! I’ve been fighting a cold and drink it three times a day. Try not to mix it with soy milk as soy protien isolates actually prevent some nutrient absorption. I loved it mixed in with chocolate milk and I’ll try the almond milk next. Delicious!

  13. Thanks for the info! I’m passing it along, and am hoping they have it here in our little health food store in Texarkana, TX

  14. Melissa

To the PP asking about drinking it while BFing, YES I am BFing and drink this DAILY as does my little bfing monster :) There are no chemicals, its made of ALL WHOLE FOODS :) Whole foods are always safe :)

  15. Dannielle

The look on her face cracks me up after you ask “Do you know what’s in it?”

  16. I love your blog and read it every time you post. I had to leave a comment on this one to thank you for the review! I have seen this on Amazon and wanted to try it, but was hoping I could find a review on it first. Perfect timing! I’m ordering some today. Thank you! :)

What an enthusiastic post. You post just often enough for me to keep up without getting overwhelmed. I just bought a Vitamix this week using your link for free shipping. Thanks! We are on our way to raw and are enjoying all the new possibilities.

My parents seem to think children should not have “greens?”  Our bodies are acidic whether we are adults or kids….   I know cold/flus are bye bye once they start taking the greens!
